What is the opinion of same sex marriage? i personally would love to get legally married someday as a straight couple would. I live in ontario, canada so therefore its legal here right now. except theres a downfall to it being legalized, the catholic priests and bishops are fighting their opinion of marriage between a man and woman. they do not wish to allow gay marriage in their churches because its not in the bible. i think they're just closeminded and living a lil too close by the lines of the book. (mind you i am not catholic nor am i bashing them) what is your opinion on this?

Do you think something might happen to the children of a same sex couple when they get married?

what other places are trying to get same sex marriage legalization? (i hope they win!)

do you believe that since same sex marriage has come up so strongly in the past year that it is yet another step to equalization?

do you think that since they gave equalization rights to blacks, asians, natives, spanish, that they can give those rights to us as well?

-Jana
(just figured it would be a good idea to bring up for a debate)

good idea, thanx  x x

i believe (of course) that it should be legal, that it should be recognised by the church...
how can the union of 2 people who love one another be wrong????

and how could kids in a loving and caring environment be in any danger?

i think being 'gay' is finaly being recognised.....  but only because they know its not going to go away...   i fear it wont be tolerated or even agreed with by the majority, for a long time....

and we should have the same rights as everyone else!!

the only answer i can see to stopping all the hate is to educate the childeren before thier parents ignorance can settle into them.....

hugs janx

I live in Saskatchewan, canada.  I love my partner and she has 2 boys.  I have 2 girls older and away from the home.  Were raising all our children to know and respect who we are.
I very much someday wish to marry my partner legally.  She is now and always will be the best thing in my life next to my daughters.  They love her and accept her as their "other" mom.  My eldest daughter is getting married in feb,2004.  We are both walking her down the aisle she wouldnt have it any other way.
I think we should have right like any other couple.
Hope someday its legal here.

Hi Jana
Interesting topic! I'm just in the throes of moving to Denmark - have to be out of my house by the 30th and have so much to do!  Anyway, the reason for moving to that country is to live with my sweetheart, Duddi (pron Doodi). It's legal to marry in Denmark and we're already engaged (though I still have to buy Duddi a ring...). Duddi has a son, Tobias, who will be 4 next month. It's a bit too early to be certain about us getting married - there's no rush! However, it's a possibilty in Denmark and you can either have a civil, legal marriage and there are a few clergy about (so Duddi tells me!) who will do a 'religious' one. Denmark is a protestant country and it's generally a very liberal place characterised by a 'human' outlook. I think it's a real possibility that England may allow gay marriages one day. There has already been moves to facilitate giving legal rights to gay couples - a step in the right direction! I think the Catholic Church has to really look at the issue but it has always been restricted by it's own dogma. A dogma which constantly causes tension between State, Church and ordinary people. Of course, it needs to put it's own house in order! Perhaps, like MSN, it needs to shut down! I've always been dismayed, to say the least, by the number of cases of child sexual abuse reported that have been perpetrated by Catholic priests! I think a lot of the problem stems from not allowing their priests to be human through disallowing them marriage/sex - a very unhealthy state.
As regards children of gay couples, I've not seen any evidence that they grow up any way other than normal. Duddi's Tobias accepts me as a parent though I'm sure he will ask lots of questions when he's a bit older. But right now he can see that Duddi and I have a lot of affection for each other and that's ok by him. It's usually me who takes him to and from Kindergarden and the staff there are accepting and quite happy about it (ie about Duddi and I being a couple) and don't seem prejudiced in any way. Same goes for other parents I meet there. I'm not sure about Tobias' status should Duddi and I ever get married - hmm... that's something I'll have to look into! However, I expect I would be seen as a 'step-parent', just as when other non-gay single mum's remarry.
Love to all
Louise

A LETTER TO BUSH FOR YOU HEHEHE
Dear President Bush
Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law.  I have learned a great deal from you and understand why you would propose and support a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage.  As you said, "in the eyes of God, marriage is based on a union between a man and a woman".  I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can.  When someone tries too defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination --- End of debate.

I do need some advice from you, however regarding some other elements of God's Laws and how to follow them.

Leviticus 25:44 states that I may posses slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighbouring nations.  A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans but not to Canadians.  Can you please clarify this.  Why can't I own Canadians?

I would like to sell my daughter into slavery as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7  In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her (I'm pretty sure she is a virgin).

When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord according to Lev. 1:9  The problem is my neighbours.  They claim the odor is not pleasing to them.  Should I smite them?

I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbath.  Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death.  Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it.

A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination according to Lev. 11:10 - it is a lesser abomination that homosexuality.  I don't agree.  Can you settle this?  Are there degrees of abomination?

Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight.  I have to admit that I wear reading glasses.  Does my vision have to be 20/20 or is there some wiggle-room here?

Most of my males friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27  How should they die?

I know from Lev 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me inclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

My uncle has a farm  He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend).  He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot.  Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them?  Lev. 24:10-16  Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws?  Lev 20:14  I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident you can help.

Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.  It must be really great to be on such close terms with God and his son, even better than you and your own Dad, eh??

Well ladies!

The whole GLBT community in the USA is not too happy right now! Not only Kentucky, but 8 other states passed the marriage proposal! Too bad some states (probably most) still feel it necessary to make descrimination lawful!

Cheers CherryWillow on that letter. Well said!

Hugs to all ~~ D

Cherry I would love to see Bush answer that one I have been a member of the largest gay church in the world for several years. They preach love. I thought Jesus was about love  My pastor who is a lesbian who has been with her partner for 18 years showed us that Niomi and Ruth were lesbians. I would love to see Bush debate her on thatI doubt the United States will allow Gay marriages as a nation anytime soon. My feelings it must be a national law because state laws are open one state not recognizing the marriage of another as long as its a gay couple. I thought marriage was about love and two people who want to commit. I guess I was wrong

What an historic occasion for the UK. Same sex couples can now officially marry and be recognised!!! about time too. I can't wait to be able to marry my wonderful gal.

hey guys!
well as you probably now i serve with the british army and it only became legal for lesbians and gay men to serve just 6 years ago but since it has been legalised for gay and lesbian couples to marry in the uk the army has stepped up and are giving us 100% equal rights and are giving us the same rights and privaliges that a hetrosexual married couple would! i think that is a massive step in the right direction! just a shame that mr blair cant disagree with mr bush about everything else and pull us poor squaddies out of iraq, i myself have serve out there twice already, i know peeps that have served out there 3 times and about embark on there 4th tour! its ludacrus (not a strong speller) but you get it! thanks for you time luv and hugs Cosmic xx
