i just thought i would ask this,i read something the orther day and it got me thinking..

what about your "class" where you are from and your sexuality??

i find this interesting , i mean i hadnt really given it a thought to be honest.

To live in the UK there is many regions and different accents( me having a very distinct one indeed like!)lol and some people have certain perceptions about those people from those regions because of the media etc, so some people (not all) assume you are a certain type of person because of where you are from..

and your "class" tbis has all become very fuzzy now, people now lead such diverse lives than say their parents did, so it can be difficult to place everyone in a box, though sadly it does happen still.

where does that fit into your being gay/lesbian?? i mean before a person came out etc where they more narrow minded to certain types and then once out they all embraced those like themselves(sexuality wise) even though they are from a different "status" ( i use this word loosely!) so therefore the woman who led perhaps a kept life, travelled, great home (very comfy)  finds the woman living in a high rise flat in a rough area really cool! where as before she wouldent have given her the time of day...( maybe)

whats it all about??  does your sexuality cut through those ideas you once had on accents regions and class??  i just read something along the lines about it and thought it was interesting really, i wonder what its like all over the world?  different countries??

hope i havent said anything wrong here??

thanks for reading anyway

hey there,

i was actually thinking about that the other day but it fascinates me more because i am in south africa and we have diverse cultures...

for example i am british south african then there is english south african. then you get the afrikaaners and the african cultures. when i look at the b/sa ppl we tend to have a more of an open mind about everything as most of our parents are british. the e/sa ppl are just fun to be around dont know why. the afrikaaners are ROUGH but soft... theyll scare you with there "muscles" and there voice but in general are chickens and shy away from most things except there beer & brandy. the africans keep to themselves unless they are gay and need some one to talk to because it is unheard of in there community and both the men and women who are gay are cast out and abused by friends family and others who know...

in the african culture what fascinates me the most is that they are able to speak proper english without thier accents and generally dress better aswell...

our gay community is so diverse that you would just have to see it for yourself...
even though i have said alot we are an open minded( most of us) country and there is far to much to talk about...

hope you have found out more

Hi Ms Kelly
Hmm... an interesting and potentially controversial topic! I've never really been 'class conscious' and I don't think it matters much. It's the person, not their background that counts. My father was an artist from the Czech Republic and my mum worked for Lloyds bank... When I was a kid my dad did a lot of factory work to make ends meet. He was a lovely person with a great artistic talent. I've only ever been attracted to, and had relationships with, women, and all the english girls were from the south east where I used to live. For what it's worth, 3 of them came from 'council house' backgrounds. But Duddi is from Denmark of course, so she has a danish accent. Mind you, her english is an awful lot better than my danish, lol. I don't think I could put her into kind of class. She's a young mum (30) and has been independent of her own family backround for many years. She's intelligent and attractive. Does anything else matter? I don't think so.
Hugs xx

I personally would like to see a "classless" society.  But if I had to put myself in a "class" it would probably be working class although my father is a business owner which would make me either upper or lower middle class I think.

As to accents, I have been brought up in Dorset and certainly have a local burr to my accent especially when I am excited or angry.  I have been referred to as a yokel a few times lol.

To be honest people are people regardless of class, accent, colour, sexuality and all deserve to be acknowledged and respected for themselves regardless.

lol ty Nicola, I wasn't intending to sound like I was putting myself down.  In fact I am very happy with who I am and rather proud of my yokel accent, especially when it makes my g/f laugh - she is broad London.

WELL,BEING A NON-WELSH SPEAKING WELSH PERSON,IT'S QUITE LIKELY I HAVE A WELSH ACCENT,ALTHOUGH MY G/F,LU(WHO IS ENGLISH),SAYS SHE DOESN'T NOTICE MY ACCENT,BUT SHE DOES NOTICE THAT MY 3 CHILDREN HAVE STRONG WELSH ACCENTS.
I PUT THIS DOWN TO THE FACT THAT THEY ARE ALL BI-LINGUAL,AND THE WELSH LANGUAGE CALLS FOR HARSHER BEARING ON CERTAIN LETTERS.
LU SAYS SHE ONLY NOTICES MY ACCENT IF I COME OUT WITH WORDS OR SAYINGS THAT SHE IS UNFAMILIAR WITH. Daffodils

Hi everyone, I do think that where you are from does influence your initial point of view on life and gay relationships and how you go about them, including matters of class and all the prejudices that it entails. But fortunately throughout life you meet other people that "open" your mind and  eyes!
As far as accents, love them!  Life would be boring if we were all the same!

By the way what is lol?

This is really an interesting topic and something I've thought about off and on for awhile.

I live in the States and we're divided into 4 sections...North, South, East and West. Each section has a different accent and then alot of the states have different accents  For 97% of my life I lived in Washington DC, which is on the East Coast and up North so I have North East accent although a good friend of mine, Sue, who lives further up North in New York City has a totally different accent. When I moved to the South, again it was a different type of accent and alot of different words...ie: you all (north)/ ya'll (south). DC is really diverse city with people from Vietnam, Mexico, Africa, America and many other places. This is one of the reasons I like DC, because of all the diversity. The Gay/Lesbian community is really great and offers alot. DC also gets alot of bad press mainly because of crime but there's alot of things that are great but never really gets publicity.
As for classes....I'm just me

Hugs
Jazzy
