CELEBRITY>>> STATUS or ADDICTION
i turned on the TV one sunday morning, and within 3 minutes, i'd seen 3 adverts for celebrity 'reality' programs... and there's dozens of them, celebrity wrestling, celebrity love island, celebrity come dancing, celebrity big brother, i'm a celebrity, get me out of here, fool around with, jodie marsh, james huitt, kenzie, romeo, and now nadia.... the list is endless, i could go on and on here... the one thing that they all have in common, it's not 'real' celebrities in them, its not people who are already on tv, who the papers already follow around, its reality tv winners, 15 mins of fame 'hangers on'. people who have had a brief taste of celebrity, and want more.. people who the public has forgotten, who want to be remembered. and have you seen some of these shows?
the wrestling.. scantily clad females rolling around the ring, ripping each others clothes off..
celebrity.. get me out of here... this has to be the worse, eating grubs, bugs, and eyes?!?!? being locked in tanks with dangerous animals?!?!?
so why do they do it? one word CELEBRITY its like a drug, they have to have it, have to be seen as CELEBRITIES, have to have the fame.... at any cost!!!!!
CELEBRITY>>> ADDICTION......
and this kind of raises one more question.. what does that make us, the viewers...

This is an interesting topic. The number of these show has increased. I personally think that since August 31st 1997 when the most photographed woman in the world was killed in a car accident, it was the end of a , "media era". Since then there has been this obsession with celebrity,it's scarey. It's as if the press had to think of a quick solution to her death and so this new celeb addiction was created. There is so many magazines on sale in the UK dedicated to stories about celebrities and their everday lives and some stories are so mediocre. I wonder if the late Andy Warhol was correct when he said all those years ago something along the lines that "people want their 15 minutes of fame". I think it should be re phrased today. "3 minutes of fame". alot of tv is so throw away now. it's a shame. thanks. |
