War of the Worlds.
Tom Cruise
Tim Robbins
Went to see this over the last few weeks. It's the second War of the Worlds movie to be made.
The first one was from the 50's and stared Gene Barry. It's with that lovely old colour film that they used back then.
This new one is directed by Steven Speilberg and is described as the 'best sci-fi ever made'.
This is not based in old England and is in today's time's, Earth is invaded by aliens from Mars.
It launches very much right into the story and has very big special FX.
The tripods themselves do look a menace and make this horrible sound..
The story by HG Wells is a classic sci-fi story and to me could have been turned into something more nearer to the original book. I don't agree with the media saying how brilliant this movie is.
It's good but not fantastic and it doesn't make you gasp at the FX.
It's Tom Cruise being typical "Tom Cruise" and Speilberg since 'Close encounters' is very good at portraying children and their quirky little habits within a family, which is in this movie..It made you feel you were in the house and the same room of this, 'family' too.
The scarey bits for me were when Cruise is with his daughter and Robbins...That was really good!
Don't have alot to say on this movie, it's good but I woulden't get excited over it but that's just me.
It is worth going to see though and to hire.
thanks.
