This evening I took my two young children aged 8 and 4 for a walk to the local swimming pool for their weekly lesson. On the way we have to pass a large wooden gate to the local common. At the gate were 3 male youths all of whom saw us walking toward them along the road. As we neared them I noticed that one of them had his genitals exposed and was masturbating. Thank goodness my kids didn't see but it has really disturbed me. They were very near the local school and an area where kids from 10-16 walk home alone from school regularly. I have reported it to the police who are going to pay me a visit for further details, thank goodness they take this sort of thing seriously. I would hate it if they went on to assault small kids. Am worried as I know they saw me and would probably recognise me again. I am beginning to hate this area. Also this evening there was nearly gang warfare outside my front door. About 30 youths were threatening each other, fortunately they dispersed of their own accord. Is anywhere safe any more? Meesh |

Meesh that is awful. Well done for calling the police though hun, alot of people don't feel able to report these things, it's good that you have done so. Otherwise these people feel they can do whatever they like unchallenged. Last year I was in the car with my mum driving, and my aaron in the back. We were driving along to the post office. It was in the middle of the day, people walking along, lots of cars going along in both directions. Most of the cars were slowing down as they were passing this particular corner outside the bakery, the people walking along had stopped and were looking across the road to this corner to. As we got nearer I could see that there was a middle aged woman being attacked by a women in her 20's. She was tring to take the older womans handbag. I shouted for my mum to stop the car, i got out and ran across the road, grabbed the younger woman, and pulled her off the other woman. It took a couple of minutes to get her to release the womans hair! I held the young womans wrists so she couldn't keep lashing out. A taxi pulled up and the driver called through an open window that he had called the police. All the people that were standing around watching this woman being mugged started to move on their way. The cars that were there started to go to. Even the taxi driver that called the police left as he didn't want to talk to the police. When the police got there i had a rant about people just wandering by leaving this woman fighting off this mugger in the middle of a street full of people. He just looked and said it happens all the time. He said nobody see's or hears anything. Turns out this young woman had a rather large knife up the sleeve of her sweatshirt. So it could have been nasty. |

U were very brave Ruthie - am not surprised she had a knife - so many ppl these days carry them. If more ppl would stand together and stand up I don't think these bullies would get away with their behaviour. So much of it is bcos they know that the police wont do much and that ordinary folk are scared to challenge them. |

thats horrible meesh, sorry you had to go through that, well done for foning the police tho x
i remember that happening ruth, does the post office guy still tease you about it? lol need more people who wont shut their eyes...
and sadly, its the same by ours, doors are kicked in, houses broken into, people beaten in the street, cars broken into, no one sees, or says a word..
i don't think it's always about people not caring, i think it's also fear.. you stop someone from commiting a crime, and end up getting stabbed?!?! but thats a whole new discussion

Meesh, how did you get on when the police came out for more information? Thanks Fluffa, I didn't know about the knife till i read it in the newspaper the next day. Sometimes I think the police get just as frustrated though, as they get the run around from youngsters that know the police can't do anything because of certain laws? Yes Jan he still makes the odd comment lol, don't think he'll ever let it go. |

If they are below a certain age they are protected by law aren't they but if they're old nuff to know they won't get into trouble with the police, then I think they are old nuff to accept the punishment |
