loved the first few releases i heard by her, thinking "cute, attitude, nice lol"

but this last single she released was a bit of a let down

We bought the cd and I think it's great....Hollaback Girl reminds me of that song

Pookie, I have seen some of James Blunts tunes on the music channels, He appears to be quite passionate about his music, I think he used to be in the armed forces, not too familier with the others mentioned sorry.

 

I liked Hollaback Girl but it was I think trying too hard to play into the younger end of the teen market Jan, Pharrel was in the vid and looks amused or even ashamed to be seen it I thought.

I have that toni basil record on 7 inch vinyl still ! it has her on the cover and she is wearing the cheerleaders outfit she wears in the vid.

That song was great. I know all the words and at junior school we all used to sing it.

It does have a similar sound to hollaback girl.

 

 

 

 

Just thought I would mention in here....Gwen Stefani's latest release is "cool" . I love this song, the word's are meaningful. I watched it online earlier today and seen it on the telly about half an hour ago.

The vid's really nice, even dare I say 'romantic!'. I love the the way the water shine's lol.

I  don't know if the woman in the vid with dark brown hair is Gwen?? I think she really suits brown hair if it is..

Three words for Gwen. "Self-hyping Marketing Brand". She's taking all the things other people have alrady done and making it seem fresh and new to the unenlightened souls new to the new wave of girl pop, just because she's a self-made brand name "Gwen Stefani". Yes, she's easily the next Madonna, but like Flea... the bassist from the Chillis... she's not as talented as she's made out to be. She's just got a knack for characterizing herself (image) and her music with a fresh look. It also helps she's got a half-decent body to make it all work.

 

Album is great. But I'm not going to get carried away with the Stefani brand.

That's what I find unique about Gwen Stefani...the way in which she tweeked the music and taken influences from many artists over the last so many years and  re-sold and repackaged it for a new generation, it's been happening for decades..remember Blondie?? then along came Madonna..but Madonna was unique,the first female video star, the first woman to use the backing dancers, remember them in the was it the "lucky star" vid?? and one of them is her brother dancing in the background ?? no one had really seen that kind of back up dancing before with an artist and being so mainstream too, anyway I 'm going of this!  

 

Also it helps that Stefani has worked with some of the best people around for her debut album too.

As soon as I heard "love angel music baby" album, It reminded me of music I had heard before.

 

I don't see Stefani though somehow as the next "Madonna"though I can why though..There is only one Madonna ,and she is a one off. Though you can see Stefani admires Madge, people need their "icons" it's what fuels the music.

 

or do we "reject all icons!".

 

to be honest I was never one who was into "No Doubt" likes some of their tunes though..

Gwen Stefani has just featured on Pharrels tune called' Can I have it like that'. It came in I think at something like number 3 or 4 last week in the UK??

 

The vid is kcool. She looks really great,I like the way she moves in it and the tune itself is brilliant.
