I kept seeing the 'Actic Monkeys' written and seen small posters around and heard bits but it didn't really catch my awarness too much even though I knew of them.
They have a second number 1 currently in the UK I believe??
What I did read about them was that they were self promoting themselves online. The public could download their tracks for free or next to nothing and they have built up quite a following.
What made me smile though was radio DJ was interviewed about them and thought it was great that the public was listening to what they wanted and helped the Monkeys to success.
The DJ went onto say that if you play a song all the time everyday on a radio station, the public are bound to like it because thats all they hear,so they more or less have to like it and will buy it!
..I can honestly say that if I was to listen to a song for 50 times a day , no way will I eventually like it!! I know that for a fact. I know from the moment I hear a song for the first minute I will like it. It has to make me feel inside...
I think this particular DJ is wrong in some way..the public know what they want to hear and will buy it.They don't have to be made to like it! Everyones different and appreciates different musical styles.
All this talk of marketing reminded me of Frankie goes to Hollywood back in the early mid 80s.
Their self promotion was amazing.
The Arctic Monkeys music remind me abit of The Jam and XTC and The Undertones and Sham69.
Always good to see new people making a go of it musically and using technology in a positive way.. Hope the Artic Monkeys go far.
'The Streets' are abit in the same vein I thought as the Monkeys.
