Does anyone here remember the English drama from the early 1980s into the mid 80s (I think) shown on BBC1 in the UK about the group of English women who were taken in Singapore and held in a Japanese camp throughout the second world war??
There was about 3 series made and the last one was a reunion.
When the woman were liberated they were allowed to sleep at the world famous Raffles Hotel, and they actually filmed I think around the real one,but the inside was specially made for the drama and was suppposed to be a replica of the real Raffles Hotel, it was brilliant..The camp shots were filmed somewhere in England!??
A brilliant drama and I still think that it is one of the BBC's most successful drama they ever showed, it was hugely popular.
I was lucky enough to track a couple of the books down, and it opens up a whole new angle to the characters.
Does anyone remember when Rose was in the sickbay...:-( I think most the characters were so stereotyped at times but it was brilliant and really interesting. I was only about 12 when I was watching it! lol
Thankyou
