A Lesson on FONTS
a 'FONT' is the 'style' of your text.
the 'FONT' used in this message is called 'AGATHA', there's an example at the bottom of the page, for those who dont have it installed, and therefore can't see.
in messages and emails, you can change your font style to any that are installed on your PC, but, only those with the same font on thiers will be able to see that style.
it takes just seconds to download and install new fonts, and is very simple to do.
you can use the new fonts to make simple name tags for yourself in your paint program.
in this message i'll explain:
where to get fonts from,
how to install them,
how to use them in your messages,
and how to make a 'font sample' to show other members your favorite fonts, so that they can download them, or a 'simple name tag' using your new fonts.
where to get new fonts
all of the sites below have free fonts.
select a font and follow the steps to download.
or, use the 'search' to find one of the examples you've seen here.
remember to put it into a folder where you will find it again. i have a folder called 'fonts' inside the 'my documents' folder.
some fonts are 'zipped', this means 'compressed' to save space, and make the download quicker. (usually about 20 seconds to download a font)
you will need a program called 'winzip' where this is the case.
install fonts onto your computer
once you've downloaded the font.
click
START>>SETTINGS>>CONTROLL PANEL
and select fonts.
in the next box that opens
FILE>>INSTALL NEW FONTS
then
1>> select your main drive ((usually C))
2>> double click each folder to open it, locate the one where you have the font saved
3>> click the name to select the font
4>> click ok
this font is now installed. you can use it in your messages and emails. you can use it to create name tags in your paint program
change the font style in messages
first of all, write your whole message out.
1>>> highlight the text in your message ((either hold down the left mouse button, and drag through the text. or press the 'ctrl+A' keys at the same time))
you'll know the text is highlighted when it turns black or blue all through it.
2>>> now simple click FONT STYLE
3>>> then choose OTHER FONT
4>>> now write in the name of the font you wish to use. make sure you copy it exactly for it to work.
5>>> click OK and your text will change to that font
remember, only those who also have it installed will see the change. to those without it will appear in arial.
if you can't remember the name, or remember how to spell it, open the font folder and copy it from there
START>>SETTINGS>>CONTROLL PANELL>>FONTS
make a 'font sample' or a 'simple name tag'
follow these steps to make a sample or make a name tag.
i use animation shop, but this will work in ms paint or whatever program you have.
the tools may not be in the exact same place, but the buttons look the same, so locate these in your own program.
open your paint program
open a new blank canvas
choose a colour
click the text tool
1>> scroll through the samples and choose one
2>>this is where you can see what the font looks like
3>>choose between normal, bold, etc
4>>choose a size
5>>now either write in your own name ((for a name tag)) or write in the font name that you are about to use ((for making a sample))
6>>if your paint prog has these options, tick 'antialias' and 'center' as i have. if they are not there, dont worry, lol
7>>then click ok
now click the crop tool
drag a box around your text, as close as you can get without cutting any off
click 'crop'
now simply save, and then upload the sample or tag into an album
the name tag can be used to sign your messages and emails, and the sample can be displayed here.
by displaying a 'font sample' other members can see what they like, and know what fonts to search for and download. it would be helpful if you can remember the site where you got it, and also leave the link for that..
here's a few font samples that i have made. i've 'named' the font in each different style so you know what it's called.
