To begin ,i would just like to say that this page in intended to give some general information about chakras, what they are, where they are and what area's of the body they govern. There is so much written about chakras that it would be impossible to cover it all in one page.
Description of energy centers:
- the word chakra comes from the sanskrit word meaning wheel and denotes the eternal cycle of time, thus representing celestial order and balance. There are 7 main chakras which are also known as energy centers. From the 1st chakra, Root, to the 7th chakra, Crown, they are located in a vertical line along the spine. These correspond to the 7 main nerve ganglia which branch out from the spine. Each of chakra governs different body functions, levels of consciousness, colours and sounds.
-chakras are one method in which we receive and transmit energy and data. When they are in balance, the energy flows more freely and more energy can be received/transmitted. When there are blocks, as you can guess, energy does not flow as easily.
7 main chakras:
1st - Root- located at the bottom of the spine and is our connection to earth and to the physical realm. The colour associated with this chakra is red and associated crystals would be ruby, garnet, red coral, agate and hematite. The root governs our sense of smell.
-the root covers our survival instincts, goals, material security, stability, courage and grounding.
-controls the solid body such as bones and teeth as well as blood and rebuilding of cells.
2nd - Sacral- located in the lower abdomen, near our sexual organs and is related to our emotional identity. The colour associated with this chakra is orange and associated crystals would be carnelian, amber, gold calcite and moonstone.
-the sacral governs depth of feeling, acceptance of change, personal creativity, and sexual fulfillment.
-it is associated with the reproductive organs, kidneys, and bladder
3rd - Solar Plexis- located above the navel but below the chest and is related to personal power and awakening. The colour associated with this chakra is yellow and associated crystals would be citrine, gold topaz, amber, tiger eye, gold calcite, gold.
- the solar plexis governs personal power, social identity, influence, authority, self control, peace, warmth inner harmony, vitality and inner strength.
-it is associated with the pancreas, liver, spleen, gall bladder and nervous system as well as the lower back and muscles.
4th - Heart- located in the centre of the chest and no surprise, is related to unconditional love. The colour associated with this chakra is green or pink and associated crystals would be emerald, green jade, kunzite, rose quartz and tourmaline.
-the heart chakra governs love, harmony, forgiveness, healing, compassion, understanding, sharing, selflessness and transformation.
-it is associated with the heart, blood circulation, immune system, lower lungs, rib cage, skin and upper back.
5th - Throat- located in the throat area and is related to communication and creativity. The colour associated with this chakra is blue and associated crystals would be blue sapphire, aquamarine, blue lace agate and celestite.
-the throat chakra governs creative self expression, communication, inspiration, wisdom, confidence, integrity and independance.
-it is associated with the jaw, neck, voice, throat, airways and upper lungs, arms.
6th - Third Eye- located in the middle of the forehead and related to seeing, both physically and intuitively. The colour associated with this chakra is indigo and associated crystals would be azurite, lapis lazuli, sodalite, quartz, and sapphire.
-the third eye chakra governs inner vision, soul realization, perception, imagination, projection of will, manifestation, peace of mind and clairvoyance.
-it is associated with the endocrine system, the nervous system, the left brain hemisphere, left eye, nose and sinus's.
7th - Crown- located at the top of the head and is related to unity with the devine. The colour associated with this chakra is violet or white and associated crystals would be amethyst, clear quartz, diamond, and selenite.
-The crown chakra governs wisdom and purpose, universal consciousness, understanding, enlightenment, perfection, and integration.
-it is associated with the cerebrum, the right brain hemisphere, right eye, and central nervous system.
While this discussion has focussed on the 7 main chakras there are also powerful energy centers in the palm of each hand and on the sole of each foot.
