What size blade is best for cutting puzzles.I cut one using a #5 and it seems to be a little loose.
Thanks ,
John

What thickness of timber are you using? if you use too thin a blade on thick timber you can find it bends on the turns and the puzzle piece will only fit from one direction

I use #0 or #1 blades for cutting 3/4" thick aspen for my puzzle-type ornaments. This makes a very close fit and a smooth edge. #2 is the coarsest I would use.  To prevent burning and to ease removal of the pattern, I attach the paper pattern with Elmer's temporary spray adhesive then cover it with a good grade of clear packaging tape. On one occasion when burning was a problem with Holly wood, I put tape on the bottom of the stock as well as over the pattern paper. It worked well.

I also use the  Ultra Thin  Pegas ones from Ben just like   4givnbugrace1  uses because they are the thinnest  dedicated puzzle blade on the market at .007" and they track better than any other  brand  of blade  that  I have used.
The jigsaw puzzle pieces fit together nice and snug when using  them and I can pick up a puzzle by the corner and wave it in the air  and it retains   its shape  and all stays together.

I think I found how to post a link to the picture without it showing the whole  album like I previously posted .
If this works I will remove the messages where  I was trying to post the picture .
Sorry for the confusion but it is rather awkward  correcting something in a site that does not have a edit feature.
Lets see if this link brings up the picture I was trying to post.

Hi

Re blade sizes: I change blade sizes depending on what sort of jigsaw I cut. On an adult, I may use a 2 or 3, but on jigsaws for children, I usually use a 5. It make sthem slightly easier to fit together.

I use a flying dutchman blade from Mikesworkshop.com, it does leave a tight fit but it is a great blade.
