Hi Marian/ Mike, all this info you are sending, is great. Just wish i could fit James in as as part of this family, so far not had any luck. Cant pin his birth down to any period in the 1840s. But will keep trying. Joe |

Hi Joe Did you notice the last one on the list Mike sent from Griffiths Valuation: Patrick Magee in Errigal Trough? That's the parish where they were married, and yet it was in Monaghan. I wonder if the border between Monaghan and Tyrone has moved? You said that Mary came from Bragan. Now Mike has found this site about Monaghan parishes: Errigal Truagh:- This is the most northerly parish of Co. Monaghan, stretching from Emyvale to the Blackwater at Moybridge. The Slieve Beagh mountains, more popularly known as ?STRONG>Bragan Mountains?/STRONG>, form the western boundary, separating it from Tyrone. Bragan is also the largest town-land in Co. Monaghan. Patron saint of the parish is St. Mellan (or St. Maudin), the ruins of whose ancient church still stand at Mullanacross, where many beautifully carved old headstones of McKenna interest remain a major tourist attraction. Probably its most famous son was Canon James Edward McKenna, born at Figulliar in 1868, he wrote the magnificent ‘History of the Parishes of Clogher? a truly monumental work. A superb production, it was published in two volumes, the first of which appeared in 1920. Described as the ‘Pioneer of Monaghan historians? he died in 1931. The parents of Archbishop John Hughes, the builder of St. Patricks?Cathedral in New York, were natives of Errigal Truagh parish. Marian |

Good morning Marian/Mike, once again thank you for all the info. as yet not had a chance to look at it, have saved those sites and will look a bit later. Marian that Patrick you pointed out in Cullimore could be worth a look. As is the the list of names that Mike sent. I recall finding some info about Bragan being in a mountain area of Monaghan as well. Yesterday with the help of my sister we found 12 James McGees on the Louth site and looked at each one, but not one of them had a Patrick as the father. As it turned out we were able to search for half the normal price of 10eur because of St Patrick's Easter Sale. Be back later , Regards Joe |
