I need some help with finding this person in census. I have found him in 1901 but none other.

Thomas Carroll born Liverpool. In 1901 census he was born 1855, his marriage certificate says 1858 and his death certificate says 1857.

He married Margaret in 1886 in Liverpool and in the 1901 census they have four children the eldest born 1892.

On his marriage cert his father is William (deceased) a labourer - Thomas was also a labourer.

There are lots of Thomas Carrolls born in Liverpool between 1855 - 58 so that's no help and I have looked on LDS  and cant find anything.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am wondering if you have checked the births on Free BMD recently?  Since
their last update they have added 10 new entries for Thomas Carroll in Liverpool born between 1855 and 1859.

I wasn't sure if you knew that the BMD records are being transcribed all the time, and they are updated on the web on a DAILY basis, so keep checking.  My Grandma's birth record is still not online but I know one day I will look and it will be there!

I will ask Mike about the matter of possible stepchildren and get back to you.

I sent to the ONS for a search and he was born 1855 - only 1 census agreed with that so maybe he told some porkies -lol.

His parents were William Carroll and Ann Castle.

I cant find a marriage for them in the UK and the census is unclear as to which family Thomas belonged to. I have found a William and Ann 1851 but not 1861 with Thomas but I have found a Thomas of the right age with a widowed Ann.

I am going to see if John and James on that census in 1861 are his brothers by writing to Liverpool.

If anyone finds a marriage of a William Carroll and Ann Castle please let me know whether it be Ireland or UK.

Thanks for all your help.

Hi Ghi

Pleased to hear that you have a wee bit more info.  I am afraid the censuses are full of errors, and it does not necessarily mean that people told lies.  At the time of the earlier censuses all ages were rounded down to the nearest five years!  So we always have to remember to make allowance for at least a few years either way.
