I'm so glad someone finally figured it all out. ha Ha. Yes like mother, like daughter. My g grandmother was not married when she had Nioba and Nioba wasn't married when she had Niobe. I shouldn't be making fun of my family, but these names are horrible. I can't imagine anyone naming their child that.My g aunt states that her father's name was Arnold Mc Carty b. in Mo. on her marr. appl. She also says she was marr to a guy with the last name of Elmore. I haven't found to much info I can relay on in this family except census and they are hard to find. I mean 1910 and then you go to 1930. They must have been hiding in 1920. They had to be living with someone with the same last name or else they would be in the index. I went thru practiculy the whole state of IL and IN with no luck. I was b. in Elkhart, IN which is on the border with MI. I live in South Bend which is about 16 miles from there. The earliest I can find them in Elkhart is 1922. Nioba in 1932. The family sure got
around, but I don't know with who or where.

Search > Census > U.S. Census > 1930 U.S. Federal Census > Indiana > Elkhart > Elkhart > District 8 (which is darned near in Michigan, far cry from Franklin County, IL!) I would like to point out that Mrs Sarah H McCarty (mother of James O) says she was first married at age 25 and that she is now 61 & wd, the year is 1930. Year minus age is birth year of 1869, add to that 25 years, 1894. 1894 Happens to be Nioba's birth year. (ok, someone in the household might not have known that Nioba was born out of wedlock. Or did both mother & daughther have children out of wedlock? Or was it just Nioba that had a child out of wedlock? If
Sarah was previously married what is the married name and what is the maiden name. So many questions!)

This one just might mean something. When I was in Al meeting my sister for the 1st time I asked my step mother why my dad kept going to Texas and she said he had a uncle down there. That he was pretty big. Problem was she didn't know anything else. I also know that when my parent's divorced my dad joined the marines in New Mexico. I also know that cousin of mine who died married his wife in AR. This guy has a connect to all 3 states.

This is the only IL Niobe to show up in HQ's census index (which now includes 1900). There were no Nioba's listed and there were no hits for IN. Cheers, Wayne

I.I've got ancestry's census and no one in this family shows up after 1910 until 1930 and not before 1880. I think I had convicts for ancestors.
