Here we have a nice old man holding up his lantern. The walking stick supporting him as he continues this journey, his focus directly at the glowing lantern. His robe hides his appearance, and his old gray beard shows both his age and also another feeling of hidden (kind of like that guy from home improvement that was always behind the fence). He is a wise old soul, holding an inner light, focussing on this light, as he walks on by himself, a journey of self discovery. These objects that he holds are the ones that guides him on his way, he has very little contact with the "outside world". This is a time of looking deep within yourself, at the resources and abilities you have acquired. Not worrying how you appear to others but how you have grown and developed on your journey. This seperation from others will help you with guidance and will bring you further along your journey. It could mean taking a short break from things in order to recover the "true meaning" of what you have been looking to achieve. |

The Hermit is a card that comes up when a person has been doing some work by them self along there path. It can also mean a person who is going it alone for some reason, be they just don't feel they fit in for some reason or they have cut them selfs off from the world due to some trama in life or discomfort. Sometimes I find it means someone who is learning on there own be it from books or with a mentor one on one. |

I think this card represents finding your way...hermits tend to hide within themselves and i see this card as showing there IS a way out. A card to draw strength from, wisdom to know the way, a light to show the way and a walking stick to give you the strength when you feel a need to rest. The fact that the stick is yellow has significance???...kinda clutching at straws on that one, but hey, this is my first go ever at giving this a go, so be nice to me |

The number nine is completion....usually completion of a task or mission. The Hermit has white hair, which typically is a symbol of wisdom and attainment. His lantern lights the way to truth and completion. If one looks at it more closely wone will find the six pointed star of david, which has great symbolism in itself. By contemplating this light one contemplates the union of man and spirit, or earth and spirit. (As above, so below.) When the star is formed it shows a perfect union of both man and spirit. Remember that one can be alone and not be lonely, and not be truly alone, ever. The staff is simple, as is the hermits robe, showing that it is through simplicity and solitude that one can find self. I note also that his head is bowed in reverance. |

This card is a reminder of our inner secret self that needs to be sifted through. The place where we place things that we don`t want to deal with. Ok I jumped in maybe this is just something that was for me to see anyway I shared it. Thank you for listening. with respect & love Red Ruby |

Misty Wow after sitting here for 10 whole mintues looking at this card I'm feeling stuck on stupid. I'm telling myself arent I the one taking a Barnes & Noble free online course on Tarot for beginners yet I'm not connecting. Here's my chance to see what I have learned I've taken the class answered the questions reviewed my answers and I have done all the exercises. I feel like giving up and not posting at this moment but, cant give up so I'm asking myself what can I do. After much thought I get my tarot deck from my night stand open the box pull out the cards. First card I turn over is nothing less than the Hermit card staring up at me talk about wanting something so bad you can just touch it . Here's what I see and feel from the Hermit card: I see a old white haired man his robe covering him yet he's not unseen. He is old but has much wisdom in hands he carries but two things a staff and a lantern his journey is to seek further knowledge of self. He carries the staff for support while walking the rocky path on the mountain top to keep him grounded and balanced much as ones does with family and friends when seeking support. The lantern he carries for lighting his way threw life's journey much as we do on our paths to enlightenment. He is alone yet not for being alone is what he chooses for he has found inner strenght and know he's really never alone much as one does when finding oneself which is something we do alone and for ourselves Well thats it (smiles) Thanks Misty this was great Brightest Blessing Luna |

being introspective thinking things over focusing inward concentrating less on the senses quieting yourself looking for answers within needing to understand searching seeking greater understanding looking for something wanting the truth at all costs going on a personal quest needing more desiring a new direction receiving/giving guidance going to/being a mentor accepting/offering wise counsel learning from/being a guru turning to/being a trusted teacher being helped/helping seeking solitude needing to be alone desiring stillness withdrawing from the world experiencing seclusion giving up distractions retreating into a private world The traditional hermit is a crusty, bearded character who has withdrawn from the company of men to live a life of seclusion and hardship. Card 9 supports this understanding. The Hermit represents the desire to turn away from the getting and spending of society to focus on the inner world. He seeks answers within and knows that they will come only with quiet and solitude. There comes a point in life when we begin to question the obvious. We sense that there is a deeper reality and begin to search for it. This is mainly a solitary quest because answers do not lie in the external world, but in ourselves. The hermit on Card 9 reminds us of Diogenes, the Greek ascetic who is said to have gone out with a lantern in hand to search for an honest man. Diogenes is a symbol of the search for truth that the Hermit hopes to uncover by stripping away all diversions. In readings, the Hermit often suggests a need for time alone - a period of reflection when distractions are limited. In times of action and high energy, he stands for the still center that must be created for balance. He can also indicate that withdrawal or retreat is advised for the moment. In addition, the Hermit can represent seeking of all kinds, especially for deeper understanding or the truth of a situation. "Seek, and ye shall find," we have been told, and so the Hermit stands for guidance as well. We can receive help from wise teachers, and, in turn, help others as we progress. |
