Sarah Waters, author of tipping the velvet, and finger smith, both with a lesbian theme.
When i started this book, I thought it a little hard to read...
It's written in the form of two seperate characters' journals, plus the normal day to day story. so untill you get to know who is who, it can be confusing, as to who's day you are reading, and if it's past or present.
As with her other books, it has a lesbian theme, but this doesn't become apparent untill later on.
By a third of the way in, everything made perfect sence, as the characters are so real, you soon find yourself able to guess who wrote what. I found myself gripped by the book, and unable to put it down, wanting all the time to hurry and find out what would happen next..
Unlike most books, I couldn't guess the outcome, right up to the end... and then the subtle clues started to make sence, and i even wondered if her way of writing the begginning was done by purpose, if she jumped between present, past, and different perspective, just to keep us from guessing the end, so we wouldn't see the clues too soon.
I'd give this book a 10/10... and reccommend that if you do start it, and find it hard reading, keep at it! it's worth the extra concentration, and you'll be amazed, shocked and amused by the turn of events...
A brilliant book.....
