I'd like to make those little fold over hangtags to put on my items (other than portraits). I can't seem to find a software that provides templates for them. I have Microsoft Publisher and PictureIt and neither has them. I would appreciate any suggestions for software or just a way to make those tags. Thanks! |

Sorry, no, don't have a picture. But those tags are on a lot of things in stores. They are made from paper or heavy paper, folded in half from the left to form "a tiny pamphlet" with a hole in the upper left going through both layers and a loop of string through the hole to hang it. |

Okay, could you not buy some thick card and cut it to the size you want and fold them in half, then use a hole punch to put a hole in the corner? Brett |

Yes, and I know I will have to use a hole punch, but first I’m looking for a layout in a computer program, so I can get my logo and pictures and some text on the front, the inside and possibly back of the tag all in the right size and right arrangement ready for printing. |

You could use a business card template very easily. If you use a Paper Direct template, the cards are butted against each other. Use the left hand side for the inside of the card and the right hand side for the outside of the card. You would also have to split each side in half so when you fold it, you have the two halves, both front and back. Inside/left card outside/right card I tried to draw what I was explaining. Hopefully it is clear enough. The first 2 squares are actually the full business card on the left side and the 2nd two cards are the full size business card on the right side. You have 5 cards down that when printed 2 sided will give you 10 hang tags. You could use either blank business card stock or those that are preprinted and use the preprinted side as the front or outside of the card. If you use preprinted cardstock, you'll have to make all 10 cards on one sheet for the front and all ten cards on another sheet for the back side. I don't have my Publisher program installed here at home but do have it at work. I'm pretty sure there is a business card template in that program and I'll play around with it to see if this can be done in that program. You may even be able to use WORD but unless you are proficient in that program and don't need to set up a difficult hang tag with clipart/pictures, it may work. Personally I don't do any publishing in WORD as I feel it's best suited for letters and text documents. Hope this info has helped. If you need futher instructions, just give me a holler!! Linster |

Attached is a .pdf file that may help better. I noted the "dotted line was the fold line" but when I converted it to a .pdf, the dotted line turned solid but I think you'll get the message. Linster |

Thanks, Linster. The file was quite clear. I print my own business cards with Microsoft Word and Avery cards all the time. But those cards separate into individual cards when folded at the dividing line. I shall search for cards which don't. This is a good idea for a work-around. I'd still like to find some software, though, if anybody knows of any. (A friend of my husband's who does scroll sawing, attaches tags like I want to his products. I don't feel comfortable asking him for the name of the software he uses because he turned markedly unfriendly when he found out that I had taken up scroll sawing.) |

What folded size are you looking to create? If you have publisher you could use that to create a folding tag. Another program would be Corel Draw. I have Publisher 2000. If you can use files from that I could make a layout and email it to you. Carl

Something like 1.5"x2" or thereabouts. I have Publisher, but it's the 1997 version. |

I made up a 1.5 X 2 folder template and saved it 3 ways. I don't know if it will open for you or not. If you could open it you would just add your info, logo and such. It would print 4 up on an 8 1/2 X 11 sheet. I can't send it thru the group as the file size won't go through. Let me know if you want me to send it via your email address? Carl

gudrun45,
I guess the instruction weren't that clear. What I was trying to explain was that you would do your printing on a business card size and then fold that card in half which would bring it down to about 1.5 x 2".
In other words, you would take each business card and type a left column and a right column for the inside fold on the 5 cards on the left side and a left and right column for the outside fold on the 5 cards on the right side. Then to print, print one side then turn it over and print the other side and you will now have 10 - 2 sided cards. Seperate those cards into individual cards and then fold those in half. You're not folding them on the perferation but folding each individual card in half.
If you already have a program that will let you design business cards, you're all set. I don't believe you will find one particular program out there that will do just hang tags. All you need is a program that will do business cards or any graphic designing.
Hope this explanation is clearer.
