This posture is started in the same standing position as the previous movements and once these movements are learnt it is good to move fluidly from one exercise to the next, eventually joining all eight exercises, creating one continual pattern of movement, the continuity strengthens the build up of Chi throughout the body and when completed will give a general feeling of vitality, fluidity and lightness throughout the body, it will enliven the spirit and calm the mind. EVEN THOUGH THIS EXERCISE IS TO BE DONE SOFTLY, ONE SHOULD WITH THE MIND, PUT INTENT INTO THE MOVEMENT AS THOUGH PUSHING AGAINST RESISTANCE, even so the muscles should remain relaxed and the mind leads the chi from the Dan Tien to the fist, the mind Chi arrives at fist at same time as fist reaches optimum position.
Remember to keep shoulders relaxed, do not completely straighten arms in the punching movement...keep moves slow and rhythmic.
As the fist punches out either across the body, or if you prefer punch straight outward the opposite hand comes down to the opposite side and is open, then as we punch outwards the open hand slowly closes to form a fist just before reaching optimum position.
