When my heart is heavy

Laden down like lead

When my mind's in turmoil

From thoughts within my head

Despite all of my blessings

I only feel despair

And though my life is full of Love

Sometimes I don't care

When days have lost their purpose

And nights I crave release

And everything comes crowding in

When all I want is peace

Despite the population

I feel I'm only one

And though I've many years in me

I don't want to go on

My God of Understanding

That's when He takes my hand

Through Love and Prayer and patience

He helps me understand.

He becomes that mighty staff,

When I rest and pray

He becomes the guiding arm

When I lose my way

When I am stranded like a lamb

Separate from the fold

He becomes that shining Light

And shows me my way home

My God of Understanding

Comes with truth and Peace

And with his Love he gives to me

The greatest of release.
