T'was only when on passing
I thought I knew his face,
The style upon his being,
His countenance and grace.
T'was only when on passing
I thought 'I know his name',
I didn't turn to speak it
But I thought it just the same.
T'was only when on passing
I felt him brush my hand,
It lingered for a moment,
As though the touch was planned.
T'was only when on passing
He then spoke and asked,
"Do you not remember
Our love far in the past?"
T'was only when on passing
The tears came to my eyes,
Not knowing really why I wept,
Was it for days gone by?
T'was only when on passing
I turned a little way,
And saw the ghost of love long gone
Slowly start to fade.
