My Love is like a summer rose That holds the morning dew, That I can pluck when it is dawn And give that bloom to you. For fragrance dwells within that flower, And spreads its sweet cologne, And as a symbol of my heart It is for you alone. The thorns that are the piercing stab Can wound a tender heart, But I will take those thorns away Right from the very start. The stem must be as smooth as silk To place within your hand, So the Love my rose doth hold Will not be stained nor damned. For pain must not come with my rose, For that must never be, A rose that has a stem of thorns Is not what's meant for thee. So my rose holds only Love, For you for whom I care, You'll hold it in your gentle hand And no scars will you bear.
