My African Grey makes a gooffy sound sometimes when she's with my husband. I call it a coo but it's more like a wimpering sound, and rubs her head on his beard. She calls him by name and follows him everywhere when she's off her cage. He's the only one she does it to. Has anyone ever seen this with their birds ???

TooLady- that is the BEST quote !!!  All of it, but especially the part about "How sad when we forget they wait patiently....".

Hope you don't mind, but I am going to save that post of yours into Pookie's journal.

I love those pictures Sherry. If that's not love I'll take whatever it is. When I first read the post that birds don't love, it made me mad, I admit. The more I think about it though it makes me sad. If you have that kind of love available to you and you don't reconize it, that's sad. Sad for the person, heartbreaking for the bird.

hello
I would like to comment on "do greys fall in love" YES! they sure do. Maxx has had me for 6 years this june and he has tried feeding me, regurgitating and wanting to feed me.He tells me he loves me and I am the only one he will let touch him. He Hates it when my boyfriend or any other man gets close to me. He butters them up then...Yep!! he bites them!!
Maxx was on top of his cage one night when my boyfriend came over.Oscar sat in a chair in front of maxxs cage , I was standing close to Oscar, well he decided to reach out to pet him, maxx was saying come on, come on...closer now   .well
Oscar put his hand out , I told him not to...Maxx got his finger then laughed. He got Oscar pretty good, but I told him it was his own fault, maxx was jealous of him.Oscar goes outside, comes back in and sits down in front of maxx again..Maxx yelled mom! I said well maxx if he has no more sense than to stick his finger out then its his fault. Well! He got his hand this time !! I told Oscar if you want to make friends with maxx, sit in front of him and just talk to him.(.esp  when im not around. )
I can do anything to maxx, trim his wings, clip his nails give him baths, but when a man is around uh uh! No Way! I belong to him..I get all his kisses and he knows he is my main man!!(bird but  he just doesnt think hes a bird) He will say sometimes...you my gurlfriend awww..so cute.
Yep!! they do fall in love....

Maxx is quite the teaser but I think if this b/f was to be in the picture for  any length of time... now's the time to get him socialized and no biting the hand that may have to feed him one day.........Scots 101

Hi, my Grey will wimper if I put my hand inside the cage. I am the male in our household also. I do not know if my grey is a girl or a boy. My grey is 2yrs. old. When my grey wimpers he also moves his wings forward with a big gap in the middle. My grey wimpers so much I feel like I better walk away before he gets a heart attack. Our grey will not wimper for my Wife. I still have to close my fist because I may get bit. That bird is so figity. He is affraid of everything, is yours?
Tony

My grey is 7yrs old and pretty mellow. We found out when she starts her wimpering and rubs on my husbands beard and acts goofy she is getting ready to lay a egg. She laid in aug 04 and just laid another in july 05. My husband is her favorite, he plays ruff with her and she loves it.He yells at her and she screams and goes right back to him.  She follows him all over the house. I have even found her sitting on his back while he sleeps. While he's at work i've found her sitting on his pillow. I take care of her and i'm home all day with her and we get along fine, but she don't sit with me like she does with him. She don't bite and we have our own little things like giving me kisses. She knows my husbands truck and when he pulls in the driveway she starts flapping her wings and yells " HEY MARK " She has never said my name. They are so smart.

Harley CAG is less afraid of "things" than Sassy my red lored amazon. But she is more nervous, of course I got her second hand and she is still adjusing and learning to trust.

I can man-handle Harley, hold her with both hands around her, flip her over on her back, pull her wings out one at a time to clip, (she had an awful clip in march before I got her and will not need one for a while) I can hold one foot to trim her nails while she lays in my arm, but I need an old towl for her to chew while this is happening. She will set under my chin and coo. She was loved a lot once, hand fed and cuddled a lot, so I think she will eventually become a swear heart.

She gave me an unprompted kiss on the shoulder while I was in the tub and she was on the edge watching. So she is getting more comfortable.

She was afraid when she stayed at my Moms the first time for a vacation, but she was better as soon as I left. And was eintainering to everyone while we were gone. Singing, saying bad words and good ones. LOL.

Sassy is afraid of things she is approched with, but nothing that is not shown too close.. Like if you walk up to her with a new object and show it to her, she will run from the new monster. But Harley will just look at it and sometimes cluck like a chicken if it looks scary. LOL

he also does that to men......butters them up and takes a bite.  For the first few weeks, my hubby said "i'm not paying $800 for a bird that hates me!" hahaha....
