I have one of the original Louis Lane comics given to me by a science teacher who shared my love of comic collecting.
Did anybody buy that complete series of the alternative dimesion X-Men called "Age of Apocalypse"? Not many fans like it, but I liked the special character they made for it called 'Blink'. Also, in this dimension, Rogue was married to Magneto and they had a child.
I always liked the darkness of Batman (DC) comics, but it's so bewildering when you walk into a comic store and see how many different variations there are to buy on the same character, and even more annoying when you see that they are also touching on that particular storyline in another comic variation; which means that, at the end of the day, you have to buy every single variation at some point!! Been there done that... spent all my pockey money!
If any sci-fi/comic fan here ever comes to Birmingham, head to Smallbrook Queensway where there is a place called "Nostalgia & Comics". It's the best store I've found that deals in comics. The owner always seems to be in America bringing stuff back for the customers.
Last time I set foot in there was about 5 years ago though. The interior and staff could have changed.
