Many of the ancient peoples of Europe marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter by celebrating a holiday in late autumn. The most important of these holidays to influence later Halloween customs was Samhain, a holiday observed by the ancient Celts, a tribal people who inhabited most of Western and Central Europe in the first millennium BC. Among the Celts, Samhain marked the end of one year and the beginning of the next. It was one of four Celtic holidays linked to important transitions in the annual cycle of seasons.

Samhain began at sundown on October 31 and extended into the following day. According to the Celtic pagan religion, known as Druidism, the spirits of those who had died in the preceding year roamed the earth on Samhain evening. The Celts sought to ward off these spirits with offerings of food and drink. The Celts also built bonfires at sacred hilltop sites and performed rituals, often involving human and animal sacrifices, to honor Druid deities.

By the end of the 1st century AD, the Roman Empire had conquered most of the Celtic lands (see Rome, History of). In the process of incorporating the Celts into their empire, the Romans adapted and absorbed some Celtic traditions as part of their own pagan and Catholic religious observances. In Britain, Romans blended local Samhain customs with their own pagan harvest festival honoring Pomona, goddess of fruit trees. Some scholars have suggested that the game of bobbing for apples derives from this Roman association of the holiday with fruit.

Pure Celtic influences lingered longer on the western fringes of Europe, especially in areas that were never brought firmly under Roman control, such as Ireland, Scotland, and the Brittany region of northwestern France. In these areas, Samhain was abandoned only when the local people converted to Christianity during the early Middle Ages, a period that lasted from the 5th to the 15th century. The Roman Catholic Church often incorporated modified versions of older religious traditions in order to win converts. For example, Pope Gregory IV sought to replace Samhain with All Saints' Day in 835. All Souls' Day, closer in spirit to Samhain and modern Halloween, was first instituted at a French monastery in 998 and quickly spread throughout Europe. Folk observances linked to these Christian holidays, including Halloween, thus preserved many of the ancient Celtic customs associated with Samhain.

Halloween traditions thought to be incompatible with Christianity often became linked with Christian folk beliefs about evil spirits. Although such superstitions varied a great deal from place to place, many of the supernatural beings now associated with Halloween became fixed in the popular imagination during the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance (14th to 17th century). In British folklore, small magical beings known as fairies became associated with Halloween mischief. The jack-o'-lantern, originally carved from a large turnip rather than a pumpkin, originated in medieval Scotland. Various methods of predicting the future, especially concerning matters of romance and marriage, were also prominent features of Halloween throughout the British Isles.

Between the 15th and 17th centuries, Europe was seized by a hysterical fear of witches, leading to the persecution of thousands of innocent women. Witches were thought to ride flying brooms and to assume the form of black cats. These images of witches soon joined other European superstitions as symbols of Halloween.

There is a LOT of good studying in this thread.  Take your time and study each section as you have time BUT STUDY THIS.

It is of utmost importance to get free from all these IDOLS.  It is devil worship.

If I never did but one thing,  to get someone to see and get free from these devil-worship holidays, I would have been a good soldier of Jesus.

Don't sacrifice your children to the devil.  Dont be tempted of Satan, and put your children in danger.

a friend gave me a picture of his little baby, yesterday.  I looked at it.  there this innocent little baby girl was, in the hands of that evil idol, santa clause.

I gave it back to him...said I would like a picture of her,  but not this one.  Don't give me a picture of this idol.  don't give your baby to this idol.  don't sacrifice her to this idol.  told him,  if you want to raise her for God, don't give her to this idol.

He said,  I will do same for her as mamma and daddy did for me.  See, this 'apostolic' family would never listen to me as I warned them against this mess.  Now this young man is seeking to start a  life for God, and has no idea how to go about it.

People,  stop sacrificing your children to devils, such as this.  We have warned you against these evils every year this group has existed.
We try to open your eyes to this truth.  Eveyone resists this truth, for they love idols.

Thanks Wanna,

I enjoyed reading your post on Halloween.

I don't like that Halloween stuff either.

When I was a child , we went to the houses at New Year, singing, wishing people a Happy New Year.

But now you see those kids dressed in ugly Hollywood costumes, and often they aren't even polite!!!

We don't celebrate it our village.Only in the street where I live, perhaps because it ends in the woods;

After the "trick or treat" kids go into the woods under surveillance of older teenagers and often when they come back they are scared.

Why teaching kids all that balloney about witches hiding in trees or behind the bushes? Why not telling them the truth: a hole in a tree is a dwelling place for woodpeckers, not for witches!

Why scaring kids???Some carry this with them their loves long, being scared of going into the woods, for fear to meet a witch!!!

We shouldn't be scared,of nothing.

Let's teach our children the truth, which is God's word, no fables.

It seems that the Druids were the noble of Celtic tribes, that they didn't sacrifice to gods, but what do we know about all this?In how far is history reliable?

I only know one thing: I studied a lot of ancient history .

You all know Alexander the Great??

The Greek speak very high of him, the Romans despise him....where is the truth?

The same with Halloween...how can we know the the truth?

One thing is for sure: those who love God, don't love Halloween.

You know as I wa reading these posts I saw something very, very interesting-
Taken from the posts-
Despite the public relations campaign to "sell" the public on the "virtues" of witchcraft, modern day witches and Satanists still worship demon gods & goddesses, practice bizarre & immoral sexual rituals, and certain groups offer animal and human sacrifices.

Noted New Age Researcher Texe Marrs said this about the activities of witches on Halloween. "...our own research confirms that on this unholy night [Halloween], witches' covens meet, drink, dance, spit out curses and spells, conjure up spirits, engage in sexual orgies, induct new members, and offer up animal and human sacrifices. (Witches have become expert at covering up these sacrifices by use of cremation ovens and the use of privately owned land preserves for disposal of bodies in deeply dug graves.)" He goes on to say, "Somewhere in America in the week prior to this coming Halloween, children will be kidnapped by witches and become statistics as `missing children.' ...

Dave Benoit tells of a mother finding a strange diary, called "The Book Of Shadows" in her son's room. She with fear and trembling leafed through pages filled with Satanic drawings. Then her eyes fell on these horrifying words, "Last year I stole a car at Halloween and ran over a kid and killed him. This year, at Halloween, I plan to do the same thing!" The words in his satanic diary proved to be true. The teenager is now incarcerated. He murdered a kid as a sacrifice to Satan.

The Druids would walk until they came to a house or a village where they shouted the equivalent of “trick or treat.?

The treat was a slave girl or any female to be given to the Druids. If the people refused to a girl as a “treat? blood was taken from the dead slave and used to draw a hexagram or six-pointed star on the door or wall of the village. Spirits of the “horned hunter of the night?were invoked by the Druids to kill someone in that house or village by fear that night.

If the house or village gave a girl as a “treat? the Druids put a pumpkin with a face carved in it in front of the door or gate of that place. Inside the pumpkin was a candle made of human tallow to keep evil spirits away. Thus, the Jack-O-Lantern was and is a sign that you have cooperated with Satan.

The treats or female victims were taken to Stonehenge where they were raped and killed and then sacrificed on the sacred bonefire until only glowing embers were left.

Let me ask this question. Do you think maybe that is why we have so
many missing children in the last few months.? Do any of you think maybe they are getting ready for their big day?

Larry, this is so horrible that it truly makes me sick to even think of it.  How can so many people still blind themselves to this kind of evil and pretend that this is just 'innocent' fun for children?

Again, as every year, I do thank God that you are willing to work and labour so hard trying to enlighten more people and get them out of this kind of evil.

God said, train up a child in the way they should go, and when they are old, they will not depart from it.

I seriously think this is the main problem....>> Parents are no longer trying to train their children in any right way.  They have homes filled to overflowing with movies, horror books and endulge in every evil holiday which comes along.  No prayer, no teaching them the word of God, and most do not even teach them obedience to their parents any more.

See, now we have children committing all kinds of crime and evil.  This is why.

I was sick as I read on a supposed-to-be- 'christian' site yesterday, where someone was exposing these evil holidays, and the false christians, the jesus-onlies, were scolding him, about cursing him, and saying,  We will not be jerked around by such.....jesus gave us the right to keep any days we want to....trying to use some portions of Scripture to back up their love for this evil and idols.

No wonder America, and the rest of the world is sinking deeper every day.

I VOTED today.  We all need to spend some serious prayer concerning this year's elections.

May the merciful  God deliever us from the wrong leader.

We do not need a man who mocks the word of God and fights the ban on partial birth abortion and against a bill to give aid to babies who do survive the abortion.

God help any nation so ignorant and far away from God and right, that they would even consider such an ungodly man for our leader!!!!!

Jo has spoken!  I almost never mention these kinds of things in here, as you all know.  But I am telling you,  this is too serious to ignore.

Did you all read the sad news that a 12 year old boy was shot and killed last night, in SC, while doing the thing, 'trick-or-treat'?

The people had their light on, and the boy, father and brother, approached their door and were shot, from inside the house.

When will people wake up and stop this kind of foolishness and raise their children for God?  This kind of evil should not even exist.

So many folks who 'claim' to be Christians, even claim to have the Holy Ghost, say there is nothing wrong with this kind of evil junk = the holidays.  But more and more the true evil of it is showing up.

Now I want to ask all who hold this view...Do you really think that you want Jesus to return to this earth and set up his Kingdom?  I say you are only deceiving your own selves.  Jesus Christ is going to rule this earth with a rod of IRON.  He is not going to 'play' with you.

Halloween, Xmas, Easter, doctors, TV, Movies, bad books,  drinking, doping, hospitals, doctors, adultery, and all such sins, ARE NOT GOING TO BE ALLOWED IN HIS KINGDOM.

So you who 'claim' to be Christian now, and still desire these evils,  you better think again.  It is only those who LOVE his appearing, who will be saved.  Now I do not think any of you who must partake in these evils are going to love his appearing.

When He returns and takes over this world, and sets his true people up to rule it, without allowing these evils, forcing true worship and clean living,  you are going to be so miserable.  You who claim that you cannot live without you TV, your Xmas and so on, how will you fare then?  And I have heard many people say these things....while at the same time deceiving themselves into thinking they are Christians, and will love it when Jesus rules this earth.

You will DESPISE it.  You will not be allowed to celebrate any holidays, for they are all devil worship.  You will not be allowed to get drunk, beat your wives and children, murder, steal, tell lies or any of that junk.  so how are you going to love his Appearing?

Sad to say, you who claim to be Christians, yet still must have your evils,  you will hate his appearing.  You will be forced to obey him then, if you are not destroyed in his judgments.
