I'm starting to feel the crisp fall days now. It's still late 70's or early 80's a few days here and there but we're having cooler days too. I haven't used the AC in a while, and that does make my check book a little happier. I'm getting ready for Ramsey ( DYH amazon I adopted from Dale) to go the vet for his check up. We got him on the 3rd of last month, and all ready he is part of the family. A very sweet bird! Dolly Lama is still growing in his feathers and old ones are molting off. I just hope he keeps them as he is looking really good right now. His new words are Hi Momma and ooooooohhhhh nooooooooo. I'm going to update with pictures soon. My oldest son Jake and his girlfriend are visiting her family in Tennessee, and we are babysitting their kitties. Right now it's the closest thing we have to grand kids so we're spoiling them!!! I'm working on some craft things to sell at the Xmas show we have here in town. I've also we making bird toys for the gang and I think between the food coloring and craft paint my hands may be stained permanently! And if that won't do it tomorrow I'm painting a room! Welcome to Fall everbirdy! |

My life is dull compared to those in Iowa..... I've been watering the yard since 6am trying to save everything from dying due to lack of rain. Wish I could remember when Rita hit as that was the last quick rain we had, and all we got was the outerbands. It's nice outside and the temps are climbing back up there to the 80's hopefully. I can't stand cold weather. I want to run the a/c all year long and this is far too cold for Florida this time of the year.......I hope summer is back again next week... Too2 |

Nan, I can picture perfectly the whole scenario!! Lol!! What a day! Look who I found in my yard today.... This poor boy was running loose in my yard. I put out two bowls...one with water and one with food. After a while he came inside the fenced in area. He has a problem with his right front leg and is matted terribly. Called my vet and she said to call the dog control officer and he will then bring this boy to them. What a round about way of getting him to the vet. But he is now there and I will call to see how he is doing next week. I hope that maybe they are able to find his owners as he is a very sweet dog. Dyan |

Dyan he is such a pretty dog and I love that breed... Those and German Shephards are my type of dog... Here we have the American Bulldog who belongs to my son.... I hope they find the owner or failing that he is adopted out. He sure looks like he could use a bath and the works.. Too2 |

Too2, Yeah, he sure was dirty and matted. I know my vet has a groomer there so I'm sure they got him all cleaned up. I have 2 GSD girls myself...Kara and Mia. Kara is 11 and Mia is 8. Also love the Bulldog too. Such sweet dogs. Dyan |

So what happens? Does he get adopted out from the vets where the new owner would pay the fees or does he get shipped to the pound?.... Do you know? He is just so special and I love the patch over the eye.......... |

Too2, I really don't know what will happen to him after he gets his shots and they correct whatever is wrong with his leg. I have a hard time believing they will send him to the no kill shelter here after treating him. I am praying someone will want him that works there or knows of someone looking for a sweet boy. When I call next week I will find out. Dyan |

Well after a wild week things have calmed down somewhat. We're heading up to Omaha Sunday for a bird show Love On the Wing will be there and I'll be getting bird food, and I want to see if anyone has some stuff for making bird toys. After that we'll go food shopping for us and the zoo crew. I like to check out Wild Oats for organic stuff and we always hit Sam's Club, and really stock up. I've been making my own dog food now and the girls are really looking good because of it. Lots of projects in the coming weeks as we prepare for the dreaded winter season. I got plastic for the windows, but I'm also thinking of putting up some quilts on the windows in the bird room to keep the drafts out too. It seems almost too soon to put on the plastic because we are still getting weather in the late 60's early 70's. But I don't want to put it off and suddenly boom it's cold. That is one sweet looking dog, and I hope he finds a home. We adopted out two cats this week, and they went to some super homes. One went to a vet tech! I hope everyone had a good weekend! Nan |

My latest "fill up time" project has been doing a photographic inventory of our house for insurance purposes. Actually, this all started when I inventoried all of my books by title and author (994 of them). It's then that I remembered that our insurance agent had suggested the photographic inventory. I've been working my way through the house, cleaning and rearranging before snapping a photo. Actually, it's been fun -- which tells you how boring my life is -- because I've found things in the back of the buffet and the bottom of trunks that I had completely forgotten about. Hubby has made some shadow-boxes for me in which I'm now displaying some treasured family heirlooms. It really has been fun. |

The weather is cold, but typical of what I've come to expect around Halloween. I feel sorry for the little ones who have such nice costumes and have to hide them under a coat to stay warm. Had a remake of the great possum battle of 2 years ago, only luckily I was the one who got to sleep in. Same scenario, fox terrier had a possum trapped under the deck, very difficult to see which was which, and the only big difference was that Ron was unable to remove any of the deck boards and grab that scruffy white hair to pull the dog out. If anyone still remembers the original where I was the one involved, I was able to remove enough deck boards to grab and pull....only to realize that I had a possum by the hind end and not the dog. All's well that ends, Ron was able to retrieve the dog by turning on the lawn sprinklers (gets her every time) and a bit later the possum made his slow but sure way out of the yard and to wherever it was that he came from. Hopefully that's it for this year. I'd rather have mice running loose in my car. |

Too, I sure wish I could send you some of our rain! Yesterday afternoon it was raining normally, and then suddenly it was as if it were coming down in ... I just don't know how to describe it ... there were no drops of rain, it was like a running tap only all over. It only lasted that way about 15 minutes, but was it ever wild. I guess that's why we stay so nice and green around here. I'm very happy to be back at work, but it sure has been busy. I'm not complaining though! lol ... I'll never complain about being too busy again! It's much better than the alternative. Last night the firecrackers freaked out the birds. I ended up sitting in here until very late calming them down. I just hate it when they start flapping around and screaching ... I'm so afraid someone will hurt themself! Oh well ... all over until the New Year. Hope everyone is having a great week! Abby |
