Most Haunted Investigation (Series 4)
Croxteth Hall is a huge mansion situated about 5 miles outside of Liverpool Town Centre and is reportedly haunted, so much so infact, that Most Haunted carried out an investigation there. The mansion which was built in 1575 has no less than 210 rooms and is surrounded by sprawling grounds.
All of the Earls of Sefton (Molyneux's) have resided at the Mansion for over 400 years and sadly the last of the family line died in 1972 leaving no heirs, so the Council then took over the running of Croxteth Hall.
Croxteth is said to be haunted by the previous owners and there have been many sightings. In the kitchen people have heard the sounds of servants working carrying out their daily chores and also the sighting of a maid. In the Billiard room dark figures have been seen sitting down in non-existent chairs and strong smells of tobacco permeate the air there. In the dining room of Croxteth there has been a sighting of a boy near the fireplace.

The breakfast room now holds a display of human-like wax work dolls sitting at the breakfast table - this room has motion detecters installed which keep going off for no apparent reason and Most Haunted reported that a police dog once would not enter that room, instead it sat outside the room cowering! Visitors to Croxteth and staff have made reports of seeing an apparition dressed in period clothes in the halls and also in Lady Sefton's personal sitting room.
There have also been stories that the 6th Countess of Sefton once said she saw the ghost of her dead husband in one of the bedrooms and this same spirit (6th Earl of Sefton) has been seen rushing through one of the rooms. Doors banging shut, voices and chuckling/giggling have all been heard as well as sightings of dark figures and shapes in the principal corridor (a very long creepy corridor!). Faults with the electricals and items around the mansion being smashed have all occurred too.
In the attic room, which used to be called the servants quarters there have been sounds of moans and groans and also strange mists that have been seen, along with apparitions of servants.
There is a picture which someone had taken which looks like a figure at the end of the principal corrider unfortunately I can't find it online although Most Haunted does show it on the programme.
Most Haunted Investigation with Derek Acorah
Croxeth is one of the largest locations that Most Haunted have ever investigated and they did not manage to visit all of the 210 rooms (obviously!).
In the breakfast room Derek told Yvette he was picking up the energies of a group of women who seemed to be consoling another girl. He came up with the name Charlotte (no connection to the hall was found with this name). As soon as Derek started to talk there were loud thumping sounds heard clearly. Yvette was in walkie talkie contact with the security man in his office and no one else was in the building. The security man had not moved from his spot and wasn't the cause of the loud banging. Phil went to investigate - there were more sounds of footsteps and bangs but no one was up there.
In the card room Derek came up with the names Mary and Phillip Molyneux - the name Mary was common within the Molyneux family so it was hard to know who it was. Two of the Molyneux's had the middle name of Phillip.
Most Haunted had a physic artist with them who drew 2 pictures, one of 2 young girls wearing hats and long coats and one of a gentleman who, the artist said, demanded his drawing come through, a man called William Creedy. It wasn't clear who the children were and what relevance William Creedy had to Croxteth. Most Haunted later found out that there was a rumour that his son Thomas was actually the illegitimate child of the first Earl of Sefton.
Derek came up with the names of Phillip,Williams and Cecelia and said they were connected, he thought by being of the same family (Molyneux's). The Earl of Seftons daughter was called Cecelia and she died in 1910.
In the principal corridors Derek picked up on the energies of a male who seemed tormented inside. He described him as a bad soul of the name Augustus Molyneux. Most Haunted later found out that there was an Augustus Craven who was brother-in-law to the second Earl of Sefton but not an Augustus Molyneux. In the kitchen Derek picked up a woman being beaten and dragged along by a bad soul who he thought was Augustus. Derek said this woman was pregnant with his child. He gave the name Tina Brown but M.H. found no records of anyone with that name.
Derek was drawn back to the breakast room and they all heard noises when they got there. Carl went to the attic room alone with the camera to investigate the noises. Suddenly a loud crashing noise was heard by both the team in the breakfast room and Carl in the attic room. They went rushing up to Carl to see if he was ok and he said there was a wooden panel on the floor which he had picked up and put back so he was perplexed whether it had fallen down naturally or something else?!
They separated into smaller groups for the vigils and a flash of light was seen in the prinipal corridor and also an orb. Another group in the kitchen were very uneasy, they heard footsteps, whispering and bangs and soon left. Yvette's team took over and heard some noises also. They then went to the cellar and Yvette called out. Something fell onto the floor, it may have been the candle holder they found on the floor but were not certain.
Richard Felix had bravely gone on his own to investigate the kitchen. Outside in the hallway he heard noises above him and footsteps and he couldn't bring himself to go into the kitchen alone, he looked through the windows/doors with his night vision camera instead. He then had enough and they sent in Matthew Smith the resident sceptic. He found it eerie but nothing happened. He did say he thought he saw something but that his eyes were playing tricks on him. Stuart went into the attic bedroom alone but soon retreated in a hurried panic and cursing after he heard 3 loud bangs, and a door closing!!
