Mae West was born in Brooklyn, NY City in 1892. She was one of three children. Her father was a prize fighter and her mother was a corset and fashion model. Mae began performing on the vaudevillian stage when she was a very young 5 years old and although she reached the height of her career in Hollywood , her formative years were spent on broadway where she wrote, directed and starred in her own plays. It was said that Mae West had another obsession than acting, which was the occult. She held & attended regular seances in an attempt to contact loved ones.

Day One

The Darress Theatre, New Jersey - Built 1919

Gail and Chris' investigation begins here at the Darress Theater where Mae West performed. This is also said to be an extremely active place - late at night people have felt unexplained cold breezes, seen dark shadows and felt a prescence watching them. Gail and Chris were told that the female side of the theatre is the most active (ie where the ladies toilets etc are). First they sat in the seats in the balcony where Chris tried to sense the energy there, then they headed down the stairs (on the female side). Chris detected a change in the atmosphere. He then picked up on a woman and said that he felt something had happened to her - that a man had followed her into the ladies toilets and then beat her very badly which was quiet disturbing. Chris set up a night vision camera on a tripod near to the door, which is another place activity has occured and while doing so he heard a noise. On film it sounds like a voice which is wailing. The two then split up briefly and Gail went to the staircase where she had a strong sense of being watched and of it being freezing cold. As she stood there a loud bang was heard at which point Gail called out to Chris. This spooked Gail but she did call out and ask if someone was there to make another noise. As Gail continued to call out to Chris another loud bang was clearly heard. Gail jumped out of her skin! Chris was in the stage area and the banging noise had not been caused by him. Intrigued, Chris went to where Gail had been and Gail went alone to the Balcony. Chris called out to Mae West to ask if it was her and he did feel the temperature become colder and he also said he felt something pulling and touching the wristband that he was wearing in an inquisitive manner! Gail rejoined him and Chris began snapping his camera into the darkness of the theater to see if he could obtain any conclusive proof that there was something there in the theatre. A immpresively large orb was caught on camera. The investigation ended there and they headed back to Manhattan.

The following morning Gail and Chris met up to discuss what had occurred. Chris talked about the noticeable cold spot he experienced on the stage area and Gail debated that it could also be put down to normal cold breezes around the area coming in from the outside etc but Chris thought it was paranormal.

Mae West was a member of a spiritualist church which she attended reguarly to take part in seances. So Gail and Chris thought it was a good idea to visit The Spirit House in George Town, a place which was used to conduct hundreds of seances over the years. There are apparently still very old photographs circulating which show the hoards of people around the house. Infact it has been said that the house had the capacity to hold 600 people. The house has been empty for a few years since the previous resident died (Alice) but Gail and Chris got to meet and speak to the daughter of the present owner of the house. As they were talking Chris interuppted the conversation to say that it had gone ice-cold behind him and that he was picking up on a female presence there. He found this an encouraging start.

19.15 Hours

Chris had his thermal scanner to take temperature readings as he explained that when ghosts/spirits enter a room they can change the temperature of the room. They went upstairs first and agreed it was colder there than downstairs and the scanner cooberated this. They visited one of the bedrooms which Chris felt had an unhappy feeling about it, saying it was less happy than the other rooms. Back in the downstairs dining room Chris called out to Mae West and anyone other spirits which were in the house. The next second he said to Gail "its behind me!" - then almost immediately a loud noise was heard by them both and they went to investigate. They opened and closed doors to see if this is what happened but it couldn't be explained. They both split up again, Chris to the Basement and Gail back to the upstairs rooms and corridors. Gail didn't see anything but she did remark on the "deathly quiet". Chris thought he heard someone scream from above him - luckily he had his recorder on and although he didnt capture the scream, he managed to capture some surprising and scary EVP which said the following:- ..."oh shit......she makes me angry"!!

Gail joined Chris in the basement and they discussed events. As Gail had been upstairs (above Chris) and standing next to the window overlooking the garden she would have heard any noise, or a scream and she didnt, so they couldnt explain what Chris had heard. As they were making their way back upstairs they both smelt a strong scent of coffee and cookies, like someone had been baking! No one has lived in the house since the last resident died (Alice, who is buried in the cemetary next to the house). They couldnt explain this smell but Chris was excited about it and called out and asked who was there? As they made their way to the cemetary Chris told Gail that he had begun getting EVPs when he was just 7 years old. Gail was quite scared as it was quite spooky in the cemetary. Chris took lots of snaps and caught another great picture of an orb. Could it be Alice or was it Mae West?

They met the following morning to again discuss the previous nights happenings. They then decided to pay a visit to a place where they thought Mae would have frequented, Bills Gay 90's - a bar in Manhattan, a speak-easy. Two of the owners staff have seen the ghosts of two young girls near the stair area and there has been a recent sighting of a man in the hallway, who appeared for just a few seconds and then vanished. Gail thought it might be a good idea for one of them to play the piano in the bar while the other took photos as this might encourage some paranormal activity. Gail played a song and Chris snapped away. Chris said he could sense the amusement of the 2 children, that they were giggling. Then Gails camera died.

They went to hallway stair area and called out to the young girls who have been seen reguarly. Chris spoke to them but they didnt seem to respond with anything that could be caught or heard on film. He did at one point say he felt something go right through him and that he felt a noticeable pressure drop in the atmosphere. Chris said could they (the girls) prove to them that they were here and then he told Gail to aim her camera towards his left hand side to the closet as he felt one of the spirits was about to make contact with Gail. Gail said she started to feel her right arm getting heavier, then Chris made everyone in the crew jump as he remarked that he had just seen a hand come through the wall next to them. He told Gail he was sure one of the spirits was going to make contact with her but had gone through the wall instead.

The next thing Gail and Chris chose to do in one last attempt to try and make contact with Mae West was to hold a seance with friends and fans of Mae West. As they sat round the table and chanted "Mae Please Come Forward" nothing much happened, until Chris said he felt the presence of one of the girls under the table - he said the other girl was outside by the stairs and that there was also a male figure standing in the room with them.

Chris then began channelling and someone appeared to come through. Chris seemed to have trouble saying the words but this is what he said" Hector is my name, i live here and i am here" One of the woman asked is this Mae? And he replied "i only see this place...i have never left this place...I know of the others here...the children...they have lost their parents....children still waiting for them to come back for them.... After that its not clear what Chris was saying but the seance drew to a close then.

So Chris and Gail didnt manage to make actual contact with the spirit of Mae West but did experience quite a few phenomena along the way, noises, bangs, voices, EVPs, orbs caught on camera, changes in temperature and Chris having a spirit speak through him at the seance.
