OUIJA

It can't be denied that there is a certain air of mystery and a sense of excitement mixed with the fear of the unknown when Ouiji Boards are mentioned.

It is well known that Ouija Boards have been used for hundreds of years as a way of communicating with relatives or unknown spirits on the other side.  Most people have at some time in their lives dabbled with one of these boards, usually a bunch of friends getting together at the suggestion of using one for a bit of fun.  I can tell you from my own experiences that it isn't something to be taken lightly as they can be very dangerous in inexperienced hands, infact the general concensus with most people nowadays is to just stay well clear of them as users can traumatise themselves quite badly.

Ouija Boards are a decorative wooden board or flat sheet with alphabet letters at the top & bottom and numbers from 0-9 along the bottom and the words Yes/No/Goodbye.

The way it works is for people to sit around a table, and place their finger onto either a downturned glass or a wooden marker and to concentrate and ask questions. However, only trained mediums know the right way to conduct a session and also how to close a session safely so don't try this yourselves!

It has been said that the type of spirits who make contact through Ouiji Board come from one of the astral planes, the lower plane which in general terms means that they are not good spirits. They are the type of spirits who maybe didn't have their life end in a good way either through suicide, murder or perhaps they died suddenly and were not ready to leave.  When novices use the Ouiji board these types of spirits are often looking for a way in, so the best advice in all cases is just to not use Ouiji Boards or conduct seances unless you are in the prescence of experienced, trained mediums/spiritualists who know what they are doing. 

A group of friends and I used one when we were teenagers one night and it started off ok, the glass was whizzing around the table and every question we asked, simple ones, like people's favourite colours, names of friends etc etc and then when we tried to ask for a name of who we were contacting it got pretty hairy. The main thing that scared me was the force of how the glass was flying around, it wasn't being pushed down by fingers, it was skimming the surface really quickly and the questions being answered correctly that only the person it pertained to knew and when we asked if we could leave the session it kept saying "no" which wasn't pleasant.

Another time (yes foolishly) I got talked into participating in another one but i had enough sense to know i didnt want it to be done where i lived.  We ended up doing it in an old listed bus shelter which was in front of a graveyard and church.  Something seemed to come through straight away. We used bits of paper cut out with the letters and numbers on. It wasn't a windy night and the shelter was rounded and was like a windshield anyway. We started getting names through and we all scared each other, I can't remember what question got asked but i can remember when it did it caused a big gust of wind came from absolutely nowhere, all the leaves raced around the shelter and all the letters and numbers were blown into the air in a split second, we all legged it and that scared me so much I never dabbled again. I think deep down you know when something is not right and when you are treading in paths you really shouldn't be going down.

There was a story going around at school (many years ago!!) of a family that did a board session and the spirit they had contacted wouldn't let them leave the table and when they did despite being told not to, knives started flying around the kitchen and subsequent events happened to some of the people who had taken part for a while afterwards....
