Cryptozoology is the study of animals that are rumored to exist, but for which conclusive proof is still missing; the term also includes the study of animals generally considered extinct, but which are still occasionally reported. Those who study or search for such animals are called cryptozoologists, while the hypothetical creatures involved are referred to by some as "cryptids", a term coined by John Wall in 1983*. *Note I have read in "Cryptozoology A to z" That the term appeared in print in 1959 by Lucien Blancou in his book
"Bernard Heuvelmans, Master of Cryptozoology".

Within this subject there are at least a hundred different "Cryptids" that have been noted in books and in the field of Cryptozoology. Some of the more well known ones are...

1. Bigfoot (Sasquatch)
2. Chupacabra
3. Jersey Devil
4. Loch Monsters
5. Mermaids/Mermen
6. Yeti (Abominable Snowman)


The most well known Cryptid is the Loch Ness Monster. Also known as "Nessie". Lock Ness is a Deep lake that is found about 23 miles Southwest from Inverness, a city in Scotland. There are many arguments that  "Nessie" is nothing more then logs.  While there have been many pictures that have shown a figure in the lock, most are taken with a grain of salt..... The most noted picture is called The "Surgeon's Photograph" taken by a man named Robert Kenneth WIlson, in 1934.  But it was revealed on his death bed (1994) that it was actuall a toy submarine outfitted with the head of a sea serpent. Making the hope that the Loch Ness Monster is more than just fiction, so much harder to prove...

There have many Cryptids that have been found to really exist... Some of them are

1. The Komodo Dragon
2. Gallotia Gomerana
3. Bergman's Bear
4. Thylacine


I truly think that there are many things in this world that are unexplained, but with hard work and crossed fingers There might be a time when "Nessie" and her friends will be taken off the list of Unknown Cryptids and put on a list of Animals that have been proven to exist or that do exist on this planet....
