Ghost Sighting

 I was living in a cottage in a town in Hampshire on the south coast of England. The cottage was about 120 years old & part of a terrace of around 20 similar properties. This particular night I had put my 6 month old in her cot in her room next to mine & gone to bed myself around 10pm. I was having an early night as I knew I would be
up around 4am with my baby. I was fast asleep in the early hours when I was woken up by the most horrific noise I ever heard! It was a reverberating metallic noise that I could only describe as what a thousand gigantic sheets of aluminium bein shaken might sound like. It was pounding through my head & I needed to cover my ears but when I tried to lift my hands to do just that I found I couldn't. I was 'frozen' so to speak which terrified me. I wanted to scream out to my husband who was downstairs but I couldn't even open my mouth. I
instinctively knew I was awake because of the sensations running through my body, the sound ripping at my eardrums, my brain aching from silently screaming & then the real terror set in. By this point my eyes had adjusted to the darkness, only  slightly broken by the moonlight through the window. And there at the foot of my bed was a figure. He just 'stood' there looking at me! There was a definite mist like aura around him & I knew he was not of this plain. He
wasn't threatening but he certainly made no effort to make me feel comfortable! I could just make out what looked like old fashioned pilots jacket & cap like the type you see in old b & w movies about aviation. He was fairly tall & slim but with broad shoulders & a deep thoughtful look in his eyes. He was very real looking but, looking back, probably only at the foot of my bed for less than a minute of my time. He continued looking at me for that length of time then suddenly he kind of slowly evaporated. Like the mist around him gradually enveloped him & shrunk away to nothingness. At the second he completely disappeared the noise stopped & I could move. I almost fell out bed, shaking, ran to the door & tore down the stairs to my husband screaming & crying. I made him go upstairs & get our little girl & refused to go back up there that night....& every other night that followed for months. We soon put the house on the market & moved away but I have never forgotten my visitor that night. I have
no idea what he was doing there that night & quite often  these days wish I had reacted differently so I might've found out. But that was then & this is now & I wasn't ready to deal with spirit then. I just hope he is ok.
