A Thousand Ships and more

I have seen you filled with loneliness

When your heart has known despair,

When my own has reached to touch you -

To tell you that I care.

I've seen the awesome beauty

Of a night sky filled with jewels,

Bright stars of stunning brilliance

Forming necklaces of pearls.

I've gazed in awe at sunsets

When the sky is filled with fire,

And smelled the scent of roses

As their perfumes speak desire.

We learn that Helen's face

Once launched a thousand ships to sea,

Yet I know that yours would sail them all

And launch ships endlessly.

I've imagined that in heaven

Angels dwell in every space,

Yet why should I seek angels

When I can gaze upon your face?

I've ached to hold you tenderly

And kiss your tears away,

To fill your life with love and joy

Each and every day.

I've finally learned what love is, and

Shaken off past lies,

For I've found love's sweet surrender

In the sparkle of your eyes..
