I do not write to place myself apart from others of my creed;
 Nor do I forge my thoughts and heartbeat in phrase and verse
 To stand aloof - empowered by misguided pride.
 I write, in order that I may take my place
 As one, In tune - In touch, with my most inner self;
 To meet my fellow man, in heart and face to face
 And let him know that I stand by his side.

  I do not write to gather fame or fortune from my words;
 Nor does my heart bleed endlessly in metaphor and ryhme
 To stand alone - in grief wherein I meditate.
 I write, in order to distance self from those whose race
 On guard, With guns - enmasse, await the smoking train;
 On board are those whose fate I share, whose fear I face
 When, hissing steam - as cattle - we reach Auschwitz gate.

 I do not write to hear my voice a silence on the wind;
 Nor do I speak in shallow prose when thoughts cry from the deep
 To stand uncomprimised - enlightened by dark history’s page.
 I write, in order that I join in spirit, mind and soul
 With you, In keeping - in holding, of all things we share as one;
 That which makes us human, completing we the perfect whole
 Ensuring that we never tread alone life’s theatre’s stage.
