Your Perfume Lingers
I come home to an empty house in silence,
I come home to a red, red rose and wept,
I see in every room your grace and presence,
And your perfume lingers still where you once slept.
A coldness fills each room which you once warmed,
And stillness calms the air your voice once kissed,
No sweet caress is here to greet me tenderly,
The lips I long to taste are deeply missed.
Your laughter filled this dwelling with such sunshine,
Your cheeky grin each moment with delight,
But now this house is nothing but a shadow,
That haunts my very soul both day and night.
You’ve touched my heart and soul with such great passion,
You’ve filled my very dreams with faith restored,
You’ve captured me so totally, completely -
That your love, my love, is all I wish assured.
I’ll not accept that distance comes between us,
I’ll not accept that we are not as one,
I’ll not accept that we shan’t be together,
When god draws the final curtain on the sun.
