Just as some people are bound by tradition to not see baptism in Jesus' Name, people especially women are bound by tradition, the "Roman tradition" to not see that a man having more than wife is scriptural.

When women grow up they have placed in their mind a picture of only one man and only one women. They are taught this and dream of the man who will want them exclusively and who they will own exclusively. They are jealous because they can't have another man and they expect he will not have another woman besides them. Women generally think men are like them and if they can't do something he can't do something.

However men and women are different. There is an authority given him by God over the woman. Just as Christ is the Head of the church, the husband is the head of the wife(could be plural). The wife(wives) is/are owned by the husband. Just as Christ has many in the body of Christ, the husband may have many wives or more than one.

It was the Roman law, not the bible, which sanctioned monogamy in name(in practice they did not do it). It was the Romantic era of history that gave into the idea that women should have an exclusive right to their husband, possessing him, along with the idea of romantic love.

Some people cannot see baptism in Jesus' Name because of preconceived ideas, Roman and from the government of Rome in origin. Baptism in Jesus' Name is done by the apostles in Acts 2:38, 8:16, 10:48, 19:5. The mode of baptism was changed into the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost at the Council of Nicea in 325AD by the Emperor Constantine to unite his empire.

But the early apostles baptized into "just" the Name of Jesus. The Name above all names was sufficient for baptism. The early disciples didn't believe in a trinity of three persons. They just knew who Jesus was, God Himself in flesh.

Nowdays, people do not even know who Jesus is. They are taught rote-like the false doctrine that there is "God in three persons", not in scripture, and sing songs to learn this. They have a preconceived idea put into them by their church along with some truth. They learn that Jesus was raised from the dead but do not understand that He is the Father or God come in human form.

If the disciples knew that Jesus was the Name(singular, the one Name) of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost, and baptized into the Name of Jesus, where is the understanding nowdays? The churches insist on saying in the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost when they baptize, believing the false doctrine of God is three persons, not an doctrine of the disciples and original believers but some later development that is contrary to scripture(Never does the bible say that God is three persons but that God is ONE and He is a jealous God.)

Since people do not understand who Jesus is and have accepted that God is in three persons, when they try to follow the bible, they often have contradictory beliefs. Many believe Jesus is God but yet want to make Him second to the Father. They want to separate Jesus from the Father in their minds when He is the Father.

When our society tries to follow the bible, they come up with contradictory beliefs and actions. Wives believe that the husband is the head of the wife but yet they want to control and own him.

Nowhere is a man having more than one wife called sin in the bible. A man is not called an adulterer for having more than one wife. Where did the idea come from that a man could not have more than one wife? Why do we look down upon men having more than one wife nowdays? Why are we so prejudiced against men having more than one wife?

Could it be that these ideas are supported and come from our government and in the past the Roman government who wanted to control the wealth in the family? And could it be that the women want to control their husband and own him by not allowing another wife? Is society being ruled by the government using women and giving women "rights" while taking away their protectors, the men?

Now you may say the husband doesn't own the wife. However Christ owns the church through the price He paid, His blood.

What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost who is in you, whom ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

For ye are bought with a price; therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's. I Cor. 6:19-20

In the bible in marriage there was a bride price paid by the husband.

Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own(heautou) wife, and let every women have her own(idios) husband. I Cor. 7:2

"her own"(Greek idios - means unique to her, having just one) This is similar to the city of your birth. There is just one city. There is just one husband that belongs to her.

Luke 2:3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own(idios) city.

"his own"(Greek heautou-meaning to be able to have more than one)

Philippians 2:4 Look not every man on his own(heautou) things, but every man also on the things of others.

The language in I Timothy 7:2 shows marriage at that time consisted of one husband and one or more wife. If the word "idios" was used for the man having his own(idios) wife then he would have been only permitted one wife. However "heautou" was used which permitted more than one wife.

Every one of us has preconceived ideas of tradition and beliefs that were put into us. Christ will show us the truth.

Both the false ideas that God is a trinity and the idea that a man having more than one wife is sin have been reinforced by the lies of the Roman government and history. We must not accept these ideas. God's law has priority over that of man's law and traditions.

There are penalties for denying both the trinity and saying that a man can have more than one wife. The traditional church says if you do not believe in the trinity I will ex-communicate you. The trinity is like a false idol. The traditional church says you are denying God if you do not believe in a trinity. However say that you believe that a man can have more than one wife and society looks at you as an outcast and society doesn't even know why they do? Society is inconsistent in that they accept many perversions like homosexuality and accept men actually living with more than one woman(a wife biblically).

Some can see that God is not a trinity, but do think that a man having more than one wife is sin. There is hope there that they may see more truth. Some can see that a man having more than one wife is not sin but cannot see that God is not a trinity. There is some hope there. If, in some ways, we come out from the traditions of men, God can show us more truth.

Your post reminds me of a passage I read recently in a book titled The Church of Our Fathers, by Roland H. Bainton. It's a fascinating book ,by the way, and chronicles the history of the church from Jesus to present-day.
The book tells of when the doctrine of the trinity originated, and how. I will quote it here:
"A quarrel broke out among the Christians themselves about the relations of the Christ, God, and the Holy Spirit. All Christians were agreed that God is one. There could be no quarrel on this point. But what was the relation of Christ to God? Although Christ lived on earth in a real body, and really suffered and really died, yet he also rose from the dead and brought new life to those who trusted in him. Surely, then, he must have been much more than ordinary man. But if he were God, would there not be two gods? And is not God's Spirit working in our hearts also God? In which case are there three gods?
The dispute became heated in the city of Alexandria, where an aged priest names Arius claimed that Christ was indeed more than a man, but less than God. A young deacon in the same church, Athanasius by name - he became bishop and is shown in the previous picture in his bishop's robes - said that the views of Arius would never do. If Christ were more than man and less than God, he would be neither one nor the other. Athanasius said that there is one God. Christ shared in the being of God. So also does the Christian, through Christ who shares completely and helps usto share more fully. The spirit shares completely too. God is one. But within the One are three, sharing in his being: the Father who is the Lord of all the universe, the Son who lived on earth and for us died and rose, and the Spirit who breathes upon our spirits and teaches us the things of God.
The three who thus share in the being of God are called the Trinity.
...The dispute as to the relationship of Christ and God was settled according to the views of Athanasius." (pages 41-42, 45)

The author also goes a little into celibacy and monogamy, although the changes in the church were very gradual, as it is spread out over several chapters. But it is interesting to note that the importance of celibacy came before the monogamy decrees. It began with a group known as the "Gnostics."

"Another type of religion in the Roman Empire was quite different and refused to see any signs of God in the world of nature. The world, said this religion, is bad. In it are flies and fleas and fevers. No good God would have made it. Our bodies are bad and the thing for us to do is to make them as miserable as we can until we can get rid of them. When people with these views became Christian, they carried over some of their ideas and said that since the body is bad and Jesus is good, he cannot have had a body - not a real one. Jesus, they said, was not really born, did not really suffer and die and rise. These people were called Docetae, from the Greek word meaning "to seem," because they said Jesus just seemed to have a body. They were also called Gnostics, from the Greek word meaning "to know," because they said that the way to rise above the body is to know more. They were proud of all they knew and delighted in philosophies, astrology, and magic." (page 26)

Gnosticism paved the way for the monks and hermits. Monks and hermits in turn led to monasteries and nunneries. Keep following the path and you find priests and bishops and eventually the pope, who was originally just another bishop. The influence of Gnosticism makes me sick to my stomach, because it literally pervades everything, even things I was taught as a child about what heaven will be like. It was the pope who made it law for all clergy to be celibate, and he eventually had to resort to underhanded manipulation to get it passed because many bishops were married and refused to obey it.

There is much more about the origin of monogamy at this link:

Monogamy basically resulted from compromise by the Catholic Church, just as much as every other "tradition" they uphold.
