Well I'm back for a bit as I accessed this through my e-mail to discover that I was still a member. Alot of good points being made in this string, IMHO... of course, much of it is over my head, being as I am only a self-educated Canuk. Still wishing that I there was a genuine Libertarian party in my province instead of wimpy blue liberals and red tories but meh, the price of having more wealth than one knows what to do with is the bane of all wealthy nations.
Canada and the U.S. are rich. The big boys and the kingpins of our countries are just not exactly eager to share the wealth because they want to secure their positions for themselves and their progeny. Brian Mulroney fleeced Canada for billions and then flew to England to enjoy his world class citizen status. The big boys aren't limited to any country in particular. Think they really care?
The playing field is bought and paid for by the Elites and the politicians continue to do what they were paid to do: keeping the public distracted. Money talks and politicians dance to the beat of their favorite rap. Face it. These folks do what they're told to do and if they do a good job and mind their "p's" and "q's" they will receive their reward just like Mulroney and all the rest of the traitors that have had the privilege of enjoying political office. Human nature has never changed in aeons and it's not about to change any time soon. At best the best politicians enter politics with the best intentions and leave as crooked and corrupt as the worst of them. Libertarianism sounds like a great concept on paper and can be made to look as good as socialism, communism, and capitalism but none of these isms ever actually manifest as wonderfully as they appear in theory. The practice suffers corruption at the foundations because corruptible and corrupt people establish those foundations as they see fit the moment they acquire the power to affect change.
