re # 2
It is the Catholic Church that assumes it has the power of Jezebel(civil law) to annul marriages or eliminate them
considering these quotes from Jesus;
"Peter, you are a rock, and upon this rock i shall build my church"
"Peter, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven - whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heavem"
"Peter, behold your mother - mother, behold your son"
according to these quotes, the Catholic(Universal) Church which was started by Peter has EVERY power !!! there are no qualifications in quote 2!!!
Very good points with one exception! The Catholic Church was originally the universal church. Many misinterpret Peter to be the rock. As a matter of fact, there were no popes until several centuries after Pentecost, therefore Peter could not be the first pope. Later in scripture the Word of God tells us(Jesus is speaking) that what we bind shall be bound and what we loose shall be loosed(not just Jesus) since we are the living stones.
The living stones have the power to bind or loose according to the Word of God.
Peter derives his authority from the Rock, as one of the living stones. The rock Christ was referring to is the message and the revelation that Peter had concerning Jesus and not Peter himself. Thou art Peter, and upon "this rock"
What rock? Peter? Not at all. The question was Who do you say that I am? Peter answers that Jesus is Christ or totally God, the anointed One. On this revelation of Jesus being the anointed One, the Messenger, we can see that the church is built upon the Rock and the revelation of who Jesus is and not Peter at all.
If Peter was the rock and the church was built upon him, there would be no propiatiation for sins since the chief cornerstone would be missing. The living stones, including Peter, would be built upon sand or wood, hay and stubble. Of course that is what the Roman Catholic Church is built upon at this point.
The Rock is Jesus and not Peter, even though the name Peter means rock. It is the revelation of who Christ is(the first question asked) that the church is built upon. To read the scripture any other way is removing the full context of the scripture.
Peter was given the keys to the Kingdom and the Kingdom of God is the Holy Ghost. Repentance(death), baptism in the Name of Jesus for remission of sins(burial) and the receiving of the Holy Ghost(resurrection). These are the keys given Peter(the living stone) by the chief Cornerstone.
By one man, all have fallen and by one man(not a woman) we are redeemed. The church is in the image of woman and the Redeemer is in the image of man. She must follow her husband's law and is not at liberty to make her own law. She is not taking the place of Jesus. The bride cannot be the Rock. Jesus does not wear pink tutus or wedding garments.
