I just may owe some of the good men of the u. S. of A. an apology. I haven't found any of these in my part of the country.

DADS HOUSE
Domestic Violence Shelter for Men & Children
This location, in the west bottoms of Kansas City (MO), is now our main consideration. The owner is willing to work with us, possibly to donate the lease payments until we are fully functional, than just make the mortgage payments of $2500 per month for more than 24,000 square feet.
This is the SW Corner. The loading ramps will be removed, and a handicap access ramp added. Off the dock will be the office, law library, a small convienence store with profits going to the shelter. A deck, with play area, will be added to the roof above the office for fathers and children staying in the shelter, which will be on the second floor. If expansion is needed, the structure can handle a third floor being added.
This is a view from the SE Corner. To the right are rollup doors that can handle a semi truck delivery. The entrance to the left will be converted into an emergecy exit for all three levels.
The building owner has already done a strip out on the first floor and basement. The basement's large enough to be a skating rink. We would change the entrance to the loading docks, in order to make it handicap accessible.
Following are pictures I took, and hell or high water, this will be a DV shelter for men and children, in the Kansas City area, by next Spring. It will be the first of its type in the country, offering:
1. Temporary, Free, shelter for men and children getting out of a violent home life;
2. Temporary shelter men tossed out of their homes by a divorce filing;
3. Counseling services for anger control, stress management, and parenting;
4. Monitored visitation service;
5. A visitation exchange center.
Unlike shelters for women, we will not completely deny access of a violent mother to the children. Our main goal will be to find a way to keep the family together, provided the mother is willing to take a positive attitude toward getting help. We will also offer help to men, with valid claims against them of domestic violence, to alter their behavior, with the hope of putting the family back together. But, only if they are willing to alter their behavior.
This shelter will not stand as a place to tear asunder the family, but to do for the children what is best for them. We will also educate men that their character choices that often bring men into their situations. Whether it involves not paying enough attention to their families, having affairs, or having children outside wedlock.
This will be an all-in-one location for divorced and single fathers to get help. Hopefully, it will become a shining example for the creation of other facilities of its type, nationwide.
