COMMENTARY BY JACOBS_TROUBLE
This is the first time I have taken upon myself the task of rewriting a book written by an author other than myself. I have ventured upon this task just as I would have anyone handle my own material within the capacity of public domain. Every word published has been reproduced within the same context of the original document. Nothing has been removed. Footnotes, wherever present, are placed at the foot of the pages wherever conveniently possible ?although this was not always the case with the original published manuscript. I have taken some aesthetic liberty with respect to those hyphenated sentences and words, including any fragments of sentences, by advancing or by delaying these to corresponding pages in order to ensure a smoother read. As a result, some shorter paragraphs and sentences are also advanced to subsequent pages for the sole purpose of preserving the overall context of the publication. All chapters contain the same words in the same order as the original chapters. This approach includes the correction of some perceived spelling errors and/or any questionable grammar no longer used in the current, modern English language. Some Greek, Latin, and Aramaic references contained in the volume have been amended only slightly in that the translations of these lexicons are identical to their original counterparts and retained as published.
If it were not for the urgency of the message contained in this book, I doubtlessly would not have so eagerly attempted the task, excepting I were so instructed (as I have been) with respect to this present occasion. I maintain that Martin Madan's message is worthy of serious and sober consideration in view of the horrendous misfortune and ruin, not only of whom the author has accurately referred to as "weak women", but also of the widespread debauchery and corruption that is so prevalent among both sexes ?not excluding the relentless victimization of children in these last days.
Outside of Jesus Christ, all unsanctified "marriage" is carnal, fleshly, rife with spiritual fornication ?an adulterous and unclean spirit of worldliness, not properly discerning the Head and the Body, in other words, ignoring the authority of the Lord even to such an extent that it would embrace another Jesus. It is verily this self-same spirit that consistently shuns the sanctification of Almighty God, by and through the licentious practice of what is currently misnomered "civil matrimony": which thing is bound only by the "ordinances" of the flesh and is not of God any more than a contract signed by two chimpanzees is ordained by a bishop in a tu-tu. It is preposterous. Of a truth, it is this very contract of "civil marriage" that is presumptuously sanctioned by that secular office of ungodly government to spawn and to generate a form of godliness but denying the power thereof.
Both godly men and women must be willing to lay aside their pride in obedient answer to the calling that God has placed upon them to His honor and to His glory. I have repeatedly stated in sundry times, that marriage is the most important decision any God-fearing man or woman may ever expect to make in their short lifetime on this earth with the exception of getting saved in Jesus' name. The reason for this is that true, godly marriage is an institution of Jesus Christ, that is sanctified and ordained only by Him and consequently established by JESUS alone; for it is written: What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. ?Mark 10:9. What man puts together is all too often a different matter.
Let it be known that this legal practice of "civil contract of marriage" is barely over a century old, and be rest assured in the knowledge that most marriages established before that time upheld a good deal more virtue than most "civil marriages" do today; for those marriages of olden times were not ordained or sanctioned by ungodly officials desirous to make a "fast buck" from selling ink-and-paper contracts readily drawn up by the hands of Caesar's henchmen. Bear in mind that the licensing of marriages is, in fact, only a recent invention of men that was originally contrived by certain officials desirous to monitor and control population under the pretext of monitoring miscegenation. The Holy Bible affirms that such activity provoked the wrath of God and that the men of Old Testament times were severely punished for such outrageous exploits. Though God grants much grace unto those who seek after righteousness in this dispensation, grace must further state that without sanctification of the Holy Spirit and the Witness from on High, all carnal unions (without sanctification) are compromised by a fleshly spirit of fornication and are therefore unclean, defiled, and without that honor which is due only to that true holiness found in Jesus Christ, our LORD. One might well ask what marriage without Jesus is.
I do not suggest that all True Worshippers should run out the door tomorrow morning to get married in the church any more than would I suggest that all True Worshippers must determine in their hearts to live in godly polygamy. If they are indeed True Worshippers then they already have the Witness of God. Rather I appeal, as Martin Madan and countless others have done in sundry times, that those who would worship God in spirit and in truth should put aside any similitude of fleshly pride in the godly knowledge that there is no boasting in the flesh. They would do well to faithfully bear in mind that they are to assist and encourage their brothers and sisters in their calling, rather than to hinder them, that all might better understand those scriptures pertaining to marriage precisely as they were written and published on the pages of the Authorized King James version of the Holy Bible. As it is written in the volume of the book: "For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that." ?1 Corinthians 7:7. Likewise the Apostle Paul could have easily stated that every woman also hath her proper gift of God. Clearly no True Worshipper is without any proper gift from God, and even the celibate are gifted in righteousness if they are found in Jesus ?but pray tell, what is celibacy without Jesus? Surely it is self-righteous and ungodly, if not miserable, torment.
True Worshippers can no more stay the hand of God than He is willing to permit. Bible prophecy will certainly be fulfilled precisely as it is written. (Isaiah 4) We would all do well to bear in mind that there is not much prophecy in the Holy Bible left to be fulfilled. Seeing that the time is near, and that we are also admonished to live contrary to the flesh, True Worshippers must come to full terms with the reality that war must be declared on those demons of thelyphthora (female ruin) because female ruin always leads to the destruction of all humanity living outside of God! Only them that believe have the real power over thelyphthora! For it is these true believers that present a hope, a promise, a purpose, and a godly reason for those lost souls to repent of their sins and to begin a NEW LIFE unto God. Marriage then, precisely as it is presented in the scripture, is an institution of God employed by the sanctification of the Holy Spirit (as opposed to the paper-sanctioning of unholy officials) to help to redeem the lost, with the gracious blessing from our Lord Jesus. Is it possible for us to know His will? Pray for understanding.
I would also beseech the reader to consider that if those needs addressed in this book, written over two centuries ago, were identified as requiring urgent attention by the author in that day and age, how much more is our attention required of us to day, in a world where we see corruption in high places has purposed to make merchandise of our men, women, and children! That we should see same-sex "civil marriage" now endorsed coast-to-coast in North America by that same "civil contract", signed mostly by "would-be" monogamists, is reason enough for God-fearing men and women to decline from what our secular government calls civil. Surely they have lost any authority from God to define what marriage is.
Again. As we see the day approaching, I would make my appeal to the True Worshippers, as many devout students of the scripture have also done, to embrace the truth precisely as it is written, even to refrain from dismissing those very prophecies of God for mere metaphors in some voluntary arrogance and ignorance of the evil that advances on the horizon of humanity. In loving memory of Martin Madan, I boldly place this same book before the reader and that existing legislature truly ordained of God, if there be any godly men left in the legislature, to quote the author himself: "The whole of the evidence on both sides is faithfully collected, and laid open, without any reserve or disguise, in this book ?let every READER look upon himself as impaneled on the jury ?let himself hearken to the cause ?and a true verdict give according to the evidence." ?Martin Madan (1726 - 1790)
