There is nothing wrong with godly laws being exercised in our secular governments. The scripture does speak of dignities being placed in the role of government by God Himself. If these said "diginities" uphold God's laws as they are written in the volume of the book we are to obey those laws. We know that nobody can change the world completely with such laws but this is not a reason to cast out the good to replace it with the bad. Have we not yet learned that God's law is the best law of all?
If the law of doweries were instituted by our government again I too, would vote for it. I dearly love my daughter and if a man cannot provide for her at least as well as I have, what will become of her? Must she also learn to provide for herself in the knowledge that no man considered her worthy enough to protect and to provide for in a godly fashion? Knowing what I know now, I would prefer that all of the law in the Old Testament (setting aside those Levitical Ordinances which are fulfilled in the Crucifixion of Christ and the perfect Living Sacrifice) were restored. For Jesus did not come to change the Law but to fulfill it. If we are in JESUS we also have a part in the fulfillment of those laws. We establish the law!
