I know this is going to sound crazy to many Americans, but we don't really know much about this grammy winning artist over in the UK. He can't seem to get arrested over here, maybe thats not strictly true, but a lot of people I have spoken to don't even know what type of music he plays.
The DMB formed in Charlottesville in 1991, a year before Dave Matthews was a bartender at a bar named Millers. By 1997, DMB reached unparalleled levels of popularity across the country and, to some degree, the world.
Dave Matthews has made several appearances in the UK during the Spring of 2006. The tour was largely promoted through independent channels rather than by mass media outlets. Matthews also played a show on May 11 at the Maida Vale Studios for the Radio 2 Bob Harris show, attended by competition winners who formed an intimate crowd of around 100 people.
During the show, audience members got to ask questions and Bob Harris asked Dave several himself. During several interviews, Matthews professed to wanting to return to the UK to do more solo shows, statine "I'm enjoying coming over by myself though, because I don't get that many opportunities to play solo, and I like doing it a lot." He also hinted at the possibility of the entire band returning to the UK for more shows: "I think the whole idea is I'll make a couple of trips over here by myself and then bring the band over." His band will be playing London in May.
Whilst on stage he talked about staying at the Mal Maison Hotel in Oxford which used to be the Oxford Prison. It was great to see he had taken an interest in the local history and incorporated it into the show.
The audience adored him, and I have to say he was really enjoyable, my eyes are opened a little more each time I go out. GP Credits Courtesy of Peppermint Pattie |
