Cafe Giardino's in a busy Berkshire shopping Mall is heaving with press today. Customers are interrupted, having their morning coffee and croissants, by the visit of Britain's Conservative Party leader David Cameron.
He is meeting with Reading residents to discuss the rising cost of living. I am certain, with the ever increasing prices of just about everything going, the residents will have a lot to say, and he will have a lot to answer for!
David Cameron was first elected as the Conservative Member of Parliament for the Witney constituency in West Oxfordshire in June 2001. He was a member of the Home Affairs Select Committee and took an interest in a wide range of subjects; including debates about the NHS and transport in Oxfordshire, questions about the A40, rural issues, retention and pay of public servants, the future of RAF Brize Norton and funding for forces schools.
In December 2005, Cameron was elected leader of the Conservative Party. He has previously held the positions of Shadow Deputy Leader of the House of Commons, Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party, front bench spokesman on Local Government Finance and Head of Policy Co-ordination up until May 2005. After the General Election in 2005, David held the position of Shadow Secretary of State for Education and Skills. In December 2005, he became The Leader of H.M. Opposition.
He quickly becomes comfortable talking with residents, and as often as the talks get heated as one pensioner shows Cameron her bank statement, he smoothly calms the situation. He is a very young leader of the opposition, and some wonder whether he will burn out before the big time.......watch this space!
