PH Phagos-Beech
Old knowledge, old writing
Beech wood is close grained and easy to work, giving a very smooth, even surface. In the past, Beech tablets were used as writingsurfaces because of these qualities. The word 'book' and Beech have the same origins. 'Turning a Leaf' is a familiar phrase to us all, reffering to reading a book or making a change of mind or direction, as in turning over a new leaf. Phagos, the Beech is the Ogham card concerned with anciemnt knowledge as it is revealed through old objects, places and writings. This guidance from the past can help you to attain insight, which is a protection for the solid foundations upon which all else depends.
The discovery of an old book may provide unsuspected information. Handling old objects or visiting a place connected with the past will bring understanding of people and incidents, reviving the memories within you that you need. Perhaps the advice of an older person, from their greater understanding and experience, will help you to see your way in a different light, and give you the wisdom to make changes.
It is important, when this card is reversed, not to discount any guidance that comes to you from such sources, dismissing them as old-fashioned or wholly inapplicable. Words are written, places built and experience gained at a cost; this should be remembered and respected. Consider that you may be, in fact, being offered help to aviod mistakes through ignorance by the knowledge being offered from the past.
