this is a simple ritual to celebrate Lammas...Lammas is the ritual of the first harvest...this is the time that the corn mother will move toward her burial grounds as she lies in wait as the hag of winter and waits ofr Imbolc to rise again and the earht is reborn!
the best place to do this ritual is i a cronfield where the corn has been harvested...this is a solemn ritual and should be kept low key...for this ritual you will need some wheat stalks, oats or barley and some ears of corn...all of these are easy to get...some red grape juice or wine for the chalice and some fresh bread for the feast (poppy seed works best)...red poppies or sunflowers for the alter...golden orange candles and two white candles...incense containing marigold petals, chamomile flowers sage and some frankincense and myrrh...this is something you can get those little self igniting charcoal rounds and just drop the ingredients on top of...then the ritual begins!
Cast your circle and light the two white candles which should be placed ont the alter with the grain you chose the orange candles the poppies or sunflowers, the bread and the wine.
Dance in a circle to raise the energy...this should be done i silence.
call on the God by saying
Father of the grain,
Spirit of the corn
Who you die to feed us,
We thank you for your act of selfless giving.
May your first burn one last time before you go.
Now someone should light the orange candle while the corn ears are scattered in a circle of the ritual space.
Now the Goddess should be invoked.
You who were the great mother of old, we honour your sacrifice.
We give thanks for our personal harvest, and we offer up our own sacrifice, for we must relinquish all that has failed in our own lives, even thought we know that letting go of cherished dreams is hard.
This is the time when you should list the goals that have come to fruition this harvest time.
Then state the failed projects that need to be released.
Raise the chalice in silence in tribute to the God (this is a symbol of his blood) then some of the wine should be poured over the ears of corn. then the chalice is passed around for all to drink.
Raise the bread in the same manner to honour the Goddess.
Pas around the bread and tear off a piece and give silent thanks before eating.
Give thanks and farewell to the God and Goddess and open the circle and the ritual is done. You have honoured the God and Goddess of the first harvest and will again honor them next year at Imbolc. I thought this one was pretty easy and you should be able to get your hands on everything you need...you can use part of the incense ingredients if you can't find them all. I hope everyone will enjoy this ritual!
