I got this info from the ChatCentralGateway group. http://groups.msn.com/ChatCentralGateway/general.msnw?action=get_message&mview=0&ID_Message=60740&LastModified=4675694423996518107 They follow the MSN stuff pretty closely. I thought it might help in determining your group name and the fact that you already started one. Mystic
"It's not recommended that you create your group on Multiply just yet... you won't be able to migrate your MSN group to an existing Multiply group (a new one will be created in the migration process), and you can't re-use the group ID (e.g. http://groupID.multiply.com/) if a group already exists with that ID. You can alter your group ID slightly and STILL name your group. The ID can't be changed but the name can be changed or adjusted any time. This means you can set up your personal site but do not set up your group til the migration tool is ready. And remember that user id's and group id's show the same in a browser. The word groups does not appear like it does here. So don't create your personal site with a user id that you want to use for your group ID."
When you migrate your group over, the migration tool will create the group for you. At that time, choose your Group's User ID. As long as it has not been used before or in use now, you can use it. If it's already been used or used before, just alter your group name slightly. You can change your group NAME at any time in the group profile settings. http://usersupport.multiply.com/journal/item/240/WELCOME_NEW_MSN_USERS_-_IMPORTANT_INFORMATION
I am pleased that you are pleased with Multiply; however, unless I missed something, the format simply won't work for many of our groups. I made a cursory visit to multiply and failed to see any provision whatsoever for custom pages, lists, multiple message boards or documents where specialized pages can be built and javascript can be executed. The blog section which is supposed to be the replacement for our boards does not appear to support custom posts. i.e. websets, formatted text, html tables etc. The sites you listed have serious navigation and loading issues. I am not sure wether that is the result of the limitations of Multiply or due to the creator of the above mentioned sites. If you have taken the time to familiarize yourself with this group, you would probably see what I am seeing. Very little of this group would survive if the parts of it that do not fit the Multiply format were lost in a move. The general layout of Multiply strikes me more like that of a lot of individual vanity sites, each with its own blog as opposed to a group format that is a site that is collectively contributed to by the members (some of whom may be a little vain lol). I am not trying to discourage anyone from checking out Multiply, but I do think that nobody should dive into it or any other group service until all of them have been explored. We may find ourselves doing what we did when MSN canned chat and decided the other options out there sucked and just buil our own.
New Information: It's not recommended that you create your group on Multiply just yet... you won't be able to migrate your MSN group to an existing Multiply group (a new one will be created in the migration process), and you can't re-use the group ID (e.g. http://groupID.multiply.com/) if a group already exists with that ID.
I've already encountered that problem. I opened up an acct with one of my groups which I was going to delete in msn and now I can't register my main group to migrate to Multiply because it's the same ID

I didn't use the migration tool that is provided...not a good idea right now....I also cancelled the start I'd made. It won't affect anything as I didn't use the tool.... I like it over there though.... |

One of the groups that I belong to are moving over to Yuku. I haven't seen it yet but the owner was very impressed with it. She says that it takes a bit of time to learn how to navigate around but once you get the hang of it, it is wonderful. You can still use your pics in your posts as well. Apparently on Multiply all of the pages that you have are stored in one place but are marked so you know that they are yours. I don't know if that means that anyone can look at them or not. They also give you a chatroom right on your group and only group members can join in the conversation. Might be worth taking a look at. I will let you know as soon as my application is approved to rejoin the group. |

I was looking into Yuku too, also CF is going to make a listing of compatable sites to give people choices to fit your group, I'm waiting for this list so we can check out our options, I really would like something as close to this set-up as posible and easy to use! The more I read about Multiply the more confused I get! |

Multiply isn't that confusing...I set up my own site..personal blogging site..and I like it. It's better than facebook and my spaces by a long ways!! Right now though, it's very confusing in the aspect that I received and invite to one group...couldn't access that group...someone else posted a link to their group..can't find it...but ended up in group number 1! I'm not sure how that worked like it did, lol. My mailbox is full of invites to yahoo and google groups...and I like neither of those... |

As it stands now, if you want to have this entire site on multiply you will, when the time comes, need to use the migration tool. However, since you have a name already you will not be able to use that name to migrate this site to multiply. You will have to chose another name in order to migrate. I am afraid you jumped the gun on the name. You can use the current name/site to practice and play with until the time for the actual move.
I would suggest that you only join the groups with the idea of getting familiar with the sites, not as a permanent residency until the migration tool is available and you really know what you are doing.

I finally got into the other group that is on Yuku. It is pretty awesome. The site looks wonderful. Although I am still figuring things out the owner of the group says that it is very simple to post. You can upload your picture albums right from the post you are doing and you can also link to Photobucket so you don't have to keep going back and forth when you want to use it. The owner of the other group was very uupset and broken-hearted when she found out that MSN was closing the groups but she is totally in love with Yuku and the pages that she has done look absolutely amazing. |

I never received an email from them. I didn't know that they were sending out emails, I thought they were just going to post the warning at the top of the page (like they did) and we would eventually get info or a link from there. |
