YES!!! I am so happy with the choice of Americans today. I have gratitude beyond words. Finally we can look respectable in the eyes of the rest of the world, and in our own children's eyes. |

I was born here in the US. I am SO glad the election is over ! The tension & anxiety has been terrible. Emotions have been incredibly high The past 6 months. I've never seen such high emotion, & division amongst the people. I am pro-Obama & very happy he is our president. I too cried when I watched the victory speech - it was very powerful & intense. I only hope thigs will eventually get better. I know things will get worse first, But, I believe things will get better. Things are bad, we really need someone too get things on track. God bless America. NMW |

Well I can't go to bed tonight without adding to this.
I have to say like you I was gripped and entralled last night till 5.30 in the morning.
I have to say I was so impressed with McCain's speech at the end. And silencing the jeers too. He was a real gentleman. I never saw that side to him. But the world is happy....have you seen the reaction all around the world??
The euphoria of the people was palpable and hearing Obama's moving and inspirational speech at the end with Jesse Jackson in tears in the crowd was one moment that will live with me for the rest of my life. It took all the pain of the last few days away.
All through the night the BBC was in Washington. John Bolton wanted to have one of the BBC reporters fired because of the way he interviewed a republican (which noone else thought there was anything wrong with). And him and Simon Schama the historian were close to decking each other. That was quite amusing. The main politics reporter for the BBC, a well known figure appeared at No.10 a bit pissed and beaming, after the result was declared because he'd spent all evening at the American Embassy. Virtually none of the people on the panel - and they kept switching - could contain their joy as the night unfolded, except Bolton and From of course.
But this interview with Gore Vidal was the funniest bit!!! I must share it with you.

Ohhhhhh....we are so happy here in the wolfie house too!!!
I cried, and we all cheered and danced. And wow, yes, it was all so beautiful!!!
I am a proud momma. My guys had some good observations, I thought with bias, watching McCain's speech....that first, we all commented on what a good guy he seemed to be. Not presidential material in our eyes, but there is a lot of good there. My oldest said he thought he was a good person, but seemed stressed under the pressure of the campaign. And of course, if the campaign stressed him, then.....
What got me was my youngest said, "Look, Momma..." and there were several times McC talked about what a great guy Obama was, etc. He would subtly shake his head "no"
How's that for a thirteen year old's observations???

Wolfie, I noticed that also, but attributed it to the crowd booing. I thought he was trying to tell the crowd not to boo at the same time he was talking. I think JM is probably a nice guy. I think Obama is a better guy. I thought both speeches were wonderful, and they both said all the right things. You gotta hand it to speech writers these days! |

I have just written on Barack Obama's wall on Facebook
There are 2,748,457 supporters who have joined that group with more joining every minute
There are 521,554 wall posts but every time you refresh another 2 or 3 posts pop up!! They are coming from ALL over the world LITERALLY I am not kidding.
To prove it I have copied some below.....ENJOY!!!!!!
You would not believe the amount of greetings I have received from my European friends (am American but live in Sweden) congratulating me for the country's victory. Emails, text messages, people at the university, people at the grocery store, everywhere, Sweden is 110% behind you and, for the first time in a long time, America.
Words seem so inadequate! I have been watching the joy on people's faces in the States and here in Australia. It is wonderful. There is a feeling that America will find her way again. God bless you and your family and God Bless America - a new day has dawned!
I'm very sorry for what Italian PM said yestarday....it's a shame for Italian people, i beg your pardon for me and for honest Italians that believe that "change can happen"...in Italy, too (and soon!)
You ROCK our World President Barack Obama! Well done to you Sir and fondest greetings from South Africa! Although we were not allowed to vote, millions of South Africans were behind you in thought, spirit and prayer. Congratulations!
ok, hope i am the first from Bosnia to congratulate. I live in Brcko District, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Bosnia is also for you, Obama.
I think it's about time "The White House" got a new paint job. I vote rainbow colours....what colour would everyone else want?
Greetings from Australia...I like hundreds of millions around the world also voted, we voted with our hearts and minds and held our breaths hoping America would do the right thing. I am proud of anyone who stood up and voted that day, for whatever reason. You did the right thing! There's more work to be done but you all made great strides that day...one small step for man...one giant leap for humanity.
We have a national mantra "Malaysia Boleh!" (Yes, Malaysia can!) coined by our former Prime Minister, Dr Mahathir Mohamad and it's difficult for me not to compare my country to the USA in many aspects. Coincidentally, Malaysia attained a semblance of a fraction of the change that has swept through the USA, on 8 March 2008, we voted to deny the ruling coalition their 2/3 majority in Parliament. We still have a long way to go...to reach a point in time when the government would stop insulting our intelligence and start working earnestly in the interest of the country and its people at large regardless of race, religion and creed, when the chant of "Malaysia Boleh!" would finally really mean something for each and every Malaysian ...Mr Obama, you have reinforced our audacity and become our beacon of hope! God bless you!
I`m behind you, as are many millions more around the globe. I`d like to share this message with you: Don`t let them stop you and don`t lose sight of what you want to achieve. The road will be long and you won`t be able to achieve all you want to. At times, there will be people who can`t see that you`re doing your best. There will be times when people lose faith. When this happens, just look within yourself and remember your goals and continue to do your best to achieve them. This is why we have dreams. Not because they`re easy and not because they are guaranteed. They are dreams because we must work at them. Good luck, I believe in you. (Japan)
I watched your speech from Indonesia and I was all teary-eyed. Your message wasn't just for Americans, it's for everyone to believe that we can make the change for a better future. Congratulations! To all Americans, I believe you have made the right choice. Wish you all the best & a better future!
La figura de Barack Obama es comparable a la del Papa Juan Pablo II, grande OBAMA me emociona mucho escucharlo, gracias Estados Unidos por ver nacer a un gran hombre y por elegirlo también como mandatario, saludos desde Chile.
Berniyaz Meirman (Kazakhstan) wrote at 3:48am The world become different! My sincerely congatulations Mr. President! I believe that your bring real change to this mad world!
...and so on and so on and so on. |

Well, we can't really know.
Sarah Palin just did the same thing, son noticed again, saying she thought Obama was a good man, etc. Shaking her head no the entire time.
We saw a show a few weeks ago, it was great, on body language. That was one thing they mentioned, especially in politicians...saying one thing, signaling something else with their body.
Clinton did it while claiming to have nothing to do with Lewinski.
Who knows, I could see it as a quieting gesture as well.
They were good speeches.
