i want to divorce my N husband. but he is very tricky and manipulative and i am afraid that he will use those skills to get the courts to not give me custody of our daughter. i am afraid he will try to make me look crazy or like an unfit or even abusive parent. this, and his financial control over me are the 2 reasons i have not yet filed (and the fact that we are in the middle of moving right now). after we move i plan to get my own job (right now i work for him) so i can start working toward being financially independent so i can support my daughter and i after we get divorced. there is a local women's services organization that has a Divorce Info Session that I plan on attending to get more educated on the nuts and bolts of divorce. i know there are some books out there that give advice about preparing for divorcing someone with NPD or BPD (he is not formally diagnosed, of course) and i plan on getting my hands on one of those. please share with me any advice or experiences you have had, things you wish you had done differently or things you were glad you did in divorcing your n spouse. i'm terrified to do this, but i can't live the rest of my life this way.

It's hard isn't it? Especially when you've been beat down for however long it's been for you. But congratulations on the first steps you are taking! There are some amazing people on this site.

Of course you're terrified but you will gain strength every step that you take (even if it doesn't always seem that way).
