Doesnt autistic in this sense mean emotionally one dimensional?  It's not autism in the true sense but a part of the N/P syndrome.

 

 They cannot relate with us as people, only in a one way type of relationship  We don't exist in their reality as 'another'.  They literally cannot relate as in autism and  thats why they appear so egocentric and self absorbed.
