Hi, does anyone have this problem? My N father is an englishman, a fact that he loves to bring out when he is critisizing Americans.(he's lived here for 49 years, and is 70) N father, deliberately asks embarassing questions, questions, I've learned, are meant to demean, belittle, and embarass the person being asked. When he does't get the answer he wants, if the person tells a "white lie", he gets furious, claims that they are lying and that they are a "typical American", 2 faced, disingenuous. That all Englismen are NOT that way, that Englishmen wouldn't get hurt or insulted, that they would answer with complete honesty and humility. Anyone else have this? I turned the tables on him last night, and he "hated" it, but I couldn't stop myself, told him he was mean for asking these embarassing questions and deserved the answers he got. Thanks, ael |

ael, I am so sorry that he did that to you. My mother's father used to do stuff like that to people. I think he felt entitled to do that because he felt he was so much and smarter than all others. It was horrible to be around. It sounds like he thinks he is better than others because he was born in the U.K. When you look at it from the outside, it is sad and annoying. From a child's perspective, even if we are now adults, it is embarrassing and humiliating. We can't change them, we can only keep as much distance from them as is possible. Hugs, Had Enough |

Hi tired at 40. Where is here? Is it the USA? If N father doesn't like the USA, then perhaps, he should consider returning to the UK? |
