Well here I am at The architecturally stunning Guildhall, in the naval town of Portsmouth. Tonight my evening will be spent with 60's star Donovan, the UK equivalent to Bob Dylan. It has been a long time since he toured and is now back on the scene, with his new album "Beat Cafe", a musical journey through his career.
Well, I should be glued to him, but I spot a familiar face on drums. I cannot believe my luck! Not only do I get to review Donovan, but a musical hero of mine is on the drums. It's none other then Rat Scabies, former punk legend of The Damned!
Well... not wanting to lose a moment, as soon as Donovan hits a solo, I rush backstage to interview Rat. I asked him about his feelings for "The Damned" since his departure and his up an coming novel, 'Rat Scabies and The Holy Grail'. Everso obliging, I get my answers. Returning to the darkened stage, I hear classics such as 'Mellow Yellow' and 'Universal Soldier'. Elated at having two stories for the price of one... I say my goodbyes to Portsmouth and the Beat Cafe.
