Not every job is an easy one! After getting the ok from Will Self's publishers, we amble over to the bookshop after the session with the Young Knives. It's late, I'm tired, and I just want to go home, so when he arrives and gets in a hissy fit (as the publisher forgets to tell him he has press) it makes you wonder why you bother! After 10 minutes of justifying why we are going to get a picture, he waffles on about everytime he has a photo taken it takes away a bit if his soul, but the charms must have worked as we eventually get a picture which I feel sums up Mr. Self!
Will Self is an English novelist, reviewer and columnist. He received his education at University College School and Exeter College, Oxford. He is married to journalist Deborah Orr.
Self is known for his satirical, grotesque and fantastic novels and short stories set in seemingly parallel universes.
His latest book which he is here today to promote is entitled The Book of Dave ?The story of a London cab driver who is slightly mad and writes a book of his rantings then buries the book, which is discovered 500 years later and used as the sacred text for a religion that has taken hold in the flooded remnants of London.
He says of his writing,"All my work is highly personal; it's more personal than me. You know, reading my books is having a far more intimate relationship with me than having a relationship with me."
